Election of 1800
The Election of 1800 was between the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. After the votes were reviewed, Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr had received the same number of votes. Both Jefferson and Burr were democratic republicans. There was a dispute about who should be nominated, but this was eventually settled in 1801 and Thomas Jefferson became president. -
Marbury v. Madison Supreme Court Decision
This dispute between Marbury and Madison. The Chief Justice John Marshall believed that the constitution was the set law and that other laws that contradicted the constitution should be nullified. -
Louisiana Purchase
The United States needed more land to further develop their nation. The Louisiana Purchase included land from the Mississippi to the Rocky Mountains. The French wanted 15 million dollars, 4 cents an acre, for this land. Thomas Jefferson accepted this deal and the land was bought. -
Lewis & Clark Reach the Pacific Ocean
Lewis and Clark were sent by Thomas Jefferson to explore and map out the territory of the land bought by the Louisiana Purchase. They spent many days travelling. Lewis and Clark eventually reached the Pacific Ocean with the help of Sacagawea and set up camp for the winter. In the end, they successfully mapped out the newly purchased land. -
Treaty of Ghent
The Treaty of Ghent was signed on Christmas Eve in Belgium. The war of 1812 lost popularity and so this treaty was put into effect. The Treaty of Ghent ended the war of 1812. -
Andrew Jackson Elected President (1st Term)
The election process took place in the year of 1828. Andrew Jackson was an uneducated presidential candidate who wanted to represent the people. Jackson won the election and invited the common people to the White House. The people broke glasses and ruined the carpets with muddy shoes earning Andrew Jackson the nickname King Mob.
