  • Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand

    Archduke Ferdinand, along with his wife Sophie, was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip in Sarajevo, the Austro-Hungarian capital. This event led to a chain of others that triggered World War I.
  • Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia

    After the assassination of the archduke, Austria sent an ultimatum to Serbia, which wasn't satisfactory. So they then decided to declare war on Serbia. This was seen as the beginning of the Great War.
