Leland Standford made a bet with his friends that when running, a horse is in air on all four legs. This bet was $25,0000. It was hard to see whether it was true or not, until they took several fast pictures which turned out to look like a video. -
Thomas Edison: Peephole Kinectoscope
Edison liked the idea of moving pictures, but he wanted only one person to see the film at a time. Edison decided that he could make profit throught these and decided to start selling them. He made quite a bit of money selling the devices, but it wasn't lived up to it's fullest potential. -
Vaudville (Nickelodeon)
Vaudville are small theatres that had skits, comedy, and songs. This was quite popular at the time. Vaudville soon became "Nickelodeon" in the 1900's. -
Louis Aime Augstin Le Prince
He was granted an American- Dual patent on a 16-lens device that combined a motion picture camera with a projector. This is what made him popular during his time. He had also won many awards from this. -
Eastman Kodak
They were the first company to produce comercial production of films. They were the first developers of moving pictures on celluloid film. This idea was made in London. -
The Lumiere Brothers
These guys did what Thomas Edison didn't do, and that was publicly sell spots to go see film as Edison wanted only people to see one at a time. These films were 15-45 seconds long and were extremely popular. They showed films on a screen to an audience. -
The Great Train Robbery
This is the first movie that was a narrative film with scenes and a storyline. Edison's employee, Edwin Porter had created this film. -
Nickelodeons
Nickeldeons were theatres that had well-developed films of it's time. We still see Nickelodeon in today's time. These films were an advance from Vaudville acts. It was a nickel for a film. -
The Vitagraph
It was a united states movie studio founded by J. Stuart Blackton and Albert E. Smith. It was bought by Warner brothers in 1925. They were known for developing silent films. -
Motion Picture Patents Company (MPPC)
It was a group formed by Thomas Edison. They tried to control the whole film industry. Anyone that would try to compete against them would end up getting their bones broken. -
Nickeldeon Progresses
By 1910, Nickelodeon theatres had progressed and spreaded across the U.S. It attracted over 26 million viewers each week. Each year that came by doubled the audience. The profit for these films had also increased. -
The Movement Westward
People had feared MPPC, so they moved westward to California. Not just because of that, but also for the better scenery. If the MPPC were to destroy their equipment, they would move downward to mexico.
