    The Triple Entente was the name given to the alliance of Great Britain, France, and Russia. The other alliance was Germany, Austria-Hungry, and Italy. This soon was turned into the world war 1.
  • Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand

    Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand
    Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir apparent to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife, were shot dead in Sarajevo, by Gavrilo Princip, one of a group of six Bosnian Serb assassins coordinated by Danilo Ilić. The political objective of the assassination was to break off Austria-Hungary's south-Slav provinces so they could be combined into a Greater Serbia or a Yugoslavia. He was assassinated to one of the members later on at a coffee shop

    the Central Powers were made up of the German Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and the Kingdom of Bulgaria. This power made it more of a bigger World war 1.

    (France vs. Germany) Over two million men fought in the First Battle of the Marne, of whom more than 500,000 were killed or wounded. French totalled 250,000, 80,000 of them dead, while British were 13,000, 1,700 of them dead. The Germans suffered 220,000.

    This boat was sunk by the German submarine, which was the first ever used in battle. US was very mad at the Germans and asked them to stop but they refused. This caused the US to get into World War 1.

    On 2nd April, Woodrow Wilson asked for permission to go to war. This was approved in the Senate on 4th April by 82 votes to 6, and two days later, in the House of Representatives, by 373 to 50. Still avoiding alliances, war was declared against the German government (rather than its subjects). War against Austria-Hungary was not declared until 7th December, 1917.

    This Battle was again against the French and German Empire. The Germans lost because of these objectives 1. to capture the city of Verdun and 2. to inflict a much higher casualty count on its French adversary.
  • Treaty of Brest-Litovsk

    Trotsky had the difficult task of trying to end Russian participation in the First World War without having to grant territory to the Central Powers. By employing delaying tactics Trotsky hoped that socialist revolutions would spread from Russia to Germany and Austria-Hungary before he had to sign the treaty.

    The Second Battle of the Marne or Battle of Reims (15 July-6 August 1918) was the last major German Spring Offensive on the Western Front during the First World War. The German attack failed when an Allied counterattack led by French and American forces overwhelmed the Germans, inflicting severe casualties.
