    Jamestown was the first English settlement in east Virginia founded by the Virginia Company. The early years in this settlement were difficult. Natives Americans had lived in this territory for hundreds of years. Therefore, tensions arose when Europeans arrived on their soil. In addition to the difficulties with Natives, settlers had struggles adapting to the new land--finding and cultivating sources of food.
