    The British wanted to capture Baltimore which was a major port city during the war of 1812. Francis Scott Key wrote the star spangled banner after he saw the US flag still up at Fort McHenry.

    This war started by the Southern states succeeding from the Union to become the Confederate Sates. The southern states wanted to succeed because they felt the north didn't have their best interest and they were imposing on their rights. By the end it was mainly about slavery.

    The emancipation proclamation was a document that freed every slave in the south. It didn't actually free any slaves because Lincoln had no control over them.
