  • Coercive Acts

    In response to the Boston Tea Party, the British Parliament passed several acts to punish Massachusetts
  • Lexington And Concord

    These were the first two official battles of the revolutionary war. "Shots heard around the world".
  • Declaration of Independence

    On July 4th 1776, the colonies declared independence from Great Britain
  • Articles of Confederation

    The Articles of Confederation was the first attempt at the US constitution. This failed because they gave to little power to the central government and to much to the states.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The treaty of Paris was a treaty that made Britain give up the 13 colonies. This treaty gave us the right to rule ourselves.
  • US Constitution was Ratified

    The US constitution was ratified and we still use it today which is amazing. Ratification is when you give formal consent to a treaty.
  • Washington Becomes the First President

    George Washington became the first US president after leading his country to victory in the Revolution.
  • The Bill of Rights

    The Bill of Rights was something the anti-federalist wanted in the government. This document gave the US citizens basic rights
  • Battle of Fort McHenry/ Star Spangled Banner

    The British wanted to capture Baltimore which was a major port city during the war of 1812. Francis Scott Key wrote the star spangled banner after he saw the US flag still up at Fort McHenry.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    This was a great battle in the war of 1812 for the US. Led by Andrew Jackson the US destroyed Great Britain in New Orleans to capture this crucial port city
  • Missouri Compromise

    At this time there had to be an even number of free and slave states. When Missouri was created they wanted to be a slave state but that would give the slave states power so they created Maine to balance it.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    The US closed off the western hemisphere to further European exploration. In return the US would not get involved in affairs in Europe
  • Andrew Jackson Becomes President

    Andrew Jackson became president after being the war hero in the battle of New Orleans.
  • Abraham Lincoln Becomes President

    The south hated Lincoln because he was against slavery. They thought he would try to do something about it so the left the US and created the Confederate States of America.
  • Fort Sumter

    This was the first official event of the civil war. The confederate won the battle. Fort Sumter is around Charleston SC.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    The emancipation proclamation was a document that freed every slave in the south. It didn't actually free any slaves because Lincoln had no control over them.

    The USA was feeling really good after back to back war victories against great Britain. There was a strong sense of nationalism and people were proud to be American.

    This war started by the Southern states succeeding from the Union to become the Confederate Sates. The southern states wanted to succeed because they felt the north didn't have their best interest and they were imposing on their rights. By the end it was mainly about slavery.
