  • Headright System - 1777

    A system that gave everyone 200 acres of land free and 50 per dependent that capped off at 1000 acres. During the Headright system, towns grew at natural places for water transportation.
  • Yazoo Land Fraud - 1785

    Sold 25 million acres for $500,000 and lost over 4.3 million dollars in the end. As a result of the Yazoo Land Fraud, Georgia's western boundary was changed significantly.
  • Cotton Gin - 1793

    A device that increased cotton production by making it easier to pick the seeds out. It resulted in Georgia's number one primary cash crop being cotton.
  • Land Lottery - 1805

    A chance for everyone to get a piece of land, but white men had a better chance of winning land. The land lottery resulted in a bigger population.
  • Dahlonega Gold Rush - 1829

    The gold in Dahlonega made people rush over there to settle and get the land. They turned some of the gold into coins.
  • Worcester v. Georgia - 1832

    Court case that determined that Natives were their own nation and did not have to follow state laws, but did have to follow US laws. The President went against it and removed the natives anyway.
  • Trail of Tears - 1838

    Georgia forced natives out of the area on a trail that most of the natives died on. Some of Georgia's Cherokee ran away into the mountains to hide out.
  • Railroads - 1845

    A way of travelling and shipping goods faster to a specific area. Railroads revolutionized how farmers got their crops to market.
