It was known as the Butler Act, and became a nationwide spectacle; other conservative states like Texas followed suit shortly after the Butler Act was passed.

Scopes was arrested for teaching evolution on May 5th, 1925; this lead to the famous Scopes Monkey Trial, where Mr. Scopes was later found guilty and fined $100 for violating the Butler Act. The case gained national attention and was later overturned.
