    Explosion at Total plant kills two, injures six
    Two people were killed and six injured in an explosion which occurred yesterday at the Carling Saint-Avold petrochemical plant of French oil and gas major Total (EPA:FP).
    The two persons who lost their lives in the accident were aged 21 and 26. The six workers who were injured have been taken to hospital.
    In a press release, Total said that the deadly explosion occurred at 1515 CET on Wednesday.
    The blast happened when workers tried to restart a steamcracker which had been shut down.

    An oil leak has been detected on Thursday at Total's (EPA:FP) oil refinery in Gonfreville-l'Orcher, northern France, regional authorities reported today.
    Despite the leak, the refinery continues to function as usual. However, the authorities have blocked the road leading to the facility for security reasons.
    Olivier Chavanne, deputy managing director of the refinery, told AFP that workers will try to remove the effects from the leak within 24 hours.

    Total's (EPA:FP) steamcracker that exploded in a petrochemical plant in eastern France had been stopped on Monday due to an electrical fault, Jean-Marc Jobert, head of Total's security, said today.
    The explosion which occurred when the cracking unit was restarted killed two and injured six workers in Carling on Wednesday. Four of the injured people are no longer in hospital, while the lives of the remaining two are out of danger.
