    Cause- need to make money in North America
    Effect- became extremely profitable, provided the first revenue for the Virginia Company.

    Cause- kidnapped from his tribe
    Effect- became a interpreter of negotiations
  • Pocahontas

    Cause- sent on a diplomatic mission to Jamestown.
    Effect- Converted to Chrisitianity and married John Rolfe, helped the colonists get settled.
  • House of Burgesses

    Cause- war made Virginia company bankrupt
    Effect- the House of Burgesses siezed the colony of Jamestown.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Cause- Need to combine together into a civil body politic by the people that sailed over on the Mayflower
    Effect- Became the first document of self-government in North America.
  • Massachusetts Bay Colony

    Cause- Royal Charter granted by wealthy puritans
    Effect- rights to settle trfade and govern the territory between the Merrimack and Charles rivers.

    Cause- people wanted to get to North America but coulnt afford it
    Effect- wealthy people would pay for people to come over but they had to work for them as servants for a set period of time

    Cuase- came to New England to take up duties for a congregation in Salem
    Effect- argued that colonists had no right to indian land but must bargain for it in good faith.

    Effect-Harvard is the only institution of higher education till 1693. Quakers built Yale in 1701 because they believed Harvard was too liberal.

    Cause- Violent raids on the colonies by Indians.
    Effect- Nathaniel Bacon decided to murder the Indians for attacking the colonies.

    Cause- group of girls claimed to have been bewitched by older men and women.
    Effect- 20 people were executed before the persecutions were stopped.

    Effect- forbade the colonies of manufacturing wool

    Cause- need of structure for the British colonial system.
    Effect- defined the colonies as suppliers of material for English manufactured goods, also structured British colonies.
