Geologic Time Project

  • Precambrian Era

    Precambrian Era
4.6 to 543 million years ago. The only lifeforms were microscopic bacteria and multicelled animals. There was also animals similar to worms and jellyfish. The climate was very hot and there was volcanic activity and mountian building. At the end of the Permian about 95% of all life on Earth died.
  • Paleozoic Era

    Paleozoic Era
543 to 248 million years ago. The climate was cooler and dried at first but then got humid. The animals were algae, sponges, other soft-bodied invertebrates, coral, trilobites, starfish and urchins. The geologic antivity was moving of continents and two main ice ages.
  • Cenozoic Era

    Cenozoic Era
65 million years to present. Known as the age of flowering plants, fish, birds and insects. Dinoaurs perished and mammals become the center stage. The climate was warm and tropical.
  • Mesozoic Era

    Mesozoic Era
248 to 65 million years ago. Animals during this era were cold-blooded vertebrate animals, with or without legs. Usually their skin is covered with scales, fern fossils have also been found. The climate was dry and highly seasonal, and there is no evidence of any type of glacial happenings. Most of the animals had just gone extinct in the Permian Extinction.
