    A suicide bomber drives into the American Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon. 63 people are killed, including 17 Americans.

    A truck bomb explodes outside of the American Embassy Annex near Beirut. The explosion kills 24 people. Two of which are US military.

    An Ameican cruiser accidently shot down an Iranian airplane over the Persian Gulf. All 290 passengers were killed.

    President Clinton began to isolate Iran. Iran is accused of terrorism, nuclear warfare, and upsetting peace in the Middle East.
  • New President Elected

    Mohammad Khatami is elected as the new president of Iran. This is the 5th president that Iran has had. He won with 70% of the votes.
  • Sanctions Lifted

    The sanctions put in place by President Bill Clinton are lifted by United States Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright. Iranian exports are now allowed into the US once again.
  • Congrats

    President of Iran, Ahmadinejad, wished Obama congratulations after he wins the Presidential election. This is the first time an Iranian leader has offered congrats to a US president since the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
