Major Events in the 1800's

  • The Louisana Purchase

    This land in the central of America was sold to America for $15 million. This land extended from the mississippi river to the Rocky Mountains, and lied between Canda and the Gulf of Mexico. We purchased the land from france from Napolean. This was bought to confirm free navigation.
  • Battle of the Alamo

    The mexican Army arived at the Alamo with tousands of men more than Texas. The battle lasted for 13 days until Mexicans had one. 6 weeks later Sam Houstons army came and bravely defeted the Mexican army.
  • The Civil War

    At 4:30 A.M. the first shot was fired to begin the Civil War at Fort Sumter. The battle was fought in over 10,000 places all over America. More than 3 million people fought in the war, over 600,000 men died in the batles also. The war ended with the freedom of many people in America.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Abraham presented this proclamtion to free slaves in the confederate states. This was very controversial because there were many different feelings throughout the whole confederate states. Lincoln made a big risk presenting this proclamation. The Emancipation did not free all slaves but only slaves that loved in the Union.
  • The Golden Spike

    This was an event where a golden spike was hammered in the ground marking the first completed Transcontinental rail road.
    This event was held in Promontory Summit, Utah. This railroad allowed people to travel coast to coast in about seven days. If the railroad was not there it would take the same trip months.
  • Invention of the Telephone

    AAlexander Gram Bell sucessfully created the phone by transmitting sound along a single wire. Bell went along to invent many more key devices. He died on August 2, 1922.
