3.3: Learning Assessment: Strategies to Resolve Conflicts

  • Strategies to prevent, manage, or resolve interpoersonal conflicts without hming yourself or others

There are several barriers that may need to be overcome to create effective communication (10). For example, jargon is a language barrier that can be solved by using simple words, not “fancy words” for the receiver to better understand the message. Also, anger is a psychological barrier to communication (11).
  • Personal Situations

Once two of my good friends got into a fight. It was over text messages sent to and from one another. Both of them perceived the text that got them into that fight wrong. They did not sit down to listen to each other in order to overcome their attitudinal or physiological barriers. Instead, they just kept texting over the phone, which lead to increased disliking. They have made up since then, but the conversation that went on at the time hampered their relationship.

We say things we may regret when angry. To overcome this, one may have to manage their stress and anger so that they do not lash out on others; perhaps participating in a sport. Lastly, a strategy to overcome physiological barrier, such as the reciever with reduced healing, could be to communicate in places that are relatively quiet, rather than louder places where one cannot hear what the person’s message (12).
