Boston Massacre
When a simple disagreement turned into a raging crowd of angry Boston citizens, redcoats showed up with weapons. The mob was taunting that they shoot them and nothing was getting better. One redcoat fired into the crowd and the others to follow. In the end five citizens were killed. -
Boston Tea Party
The colonists were angry with the British, mainly about how they were being taxed, townshend acts, etc. On a cold December, the townspeople dressed up as Indians, and headed to the Boston Harbor, where three ships carrying tea had been. They proceeded to dump the tea into the water, costing (today) millions of dollars in damage. -
Battle of Lexington & Concord
This battle was fought during the Revoluntonary war. It was the Britsh against the Militia of Massachusetts. It was fought in Boston, Massachusetts. General Gage was a leader of the British. He chose to send 800 men to attack and desroy the enemy, but in the end the British suffered a horrible loss. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The Battle of Bunker Hill was a battle that occured during the American Revolution (which was the war for our freedom). The Americans (about 1,500 people) fought the British (about 2,400 people). As you would probably guess, the British won the battle, However, both sides claimed victory because it took the British three attempts to take over the hill. In the first two attempts, the Americans killed many of the Britsh Soldiers. -
Battle of New York
The Battle of New York was not good for the Americans. The poorly trained Americans were trying to defend New York from redcoats that out-numbered them. In the end, many men on the American side died and Washington was forced to retreat to New Jersey. -
Declaration of Independence Signing
The Declaration of Independence was signed in the Independence Hall of Phillidelphia, Pennsylvania. In total, 56 people signed it. Some of these people include; Benjamin Franklin, who was the oldest person to sign at age 70, John and Samuel Adams, and Thomas Jefferson, who was the person who drafted it. -
Battle of Trenton
This battle took place in Trenton, New Jersey on the Delaware River. George Washinton led his men to attack Hessian. They claimed victory very easily after on ly a brief battle. -
Battle of Princeton
This battle was when George Washington led his men to Princeton, New Jersey. The Americans defeated the British. There is now a state park where the battle site is. -
Battle of Saratoga
This battle was for control of the Hudson River Valley. The British planned on ambushing the Americans to gain control. Instead in the end they were forced to retreat. -
Valley Forge
Winter of 1777-1778 the Americans were giving up hope. Many died from the cold, disease, and starvation. Some people even deserted the army to go home to thier families. With help from other countries that the British were enemies with, they begame hopeful. People came to help train the Americans and by the next year, a whole new army emerged. So Valley Forge was simply where the Americans stayed in Pennsyvania and where they became stronger, resuulting in winning the Revoluntionary War. -
Battle of Yorktown
This battle was the Americans and the French againest the British. The Americans had much larger numbers than the British. Charles Cornwallis ended up surrendering to George Washington. This surrender is considered to be what ended the war (making the British loose). -
Treaty of Paris (the one that ended the Revolutionary War)
The Treaty of Paris, 1783 is what offically ended the Revolutionary War. This treaty set the borders for the now independent country. Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and John Jay (who was an American politician and even the president of the Continental Congress for a year).
