    Financial Troubles

    French RevThis was happening when the king was spending more than he earned. While still having to deal with the debt from the Seven Years War. There were three estates or classes that the people of France wer divided into the top two classes didn't have to pay taxes while all the poor people had to pay taxes on everything and when the prices went up the people in the lowest estate started starving.

    Estate General Meeting
    The delegates were so confused about voting because anyway they vote the third estate's votes never really mattered. So in June of 1789 the third estate took a big step by making the National Assembly, however where this assembly took place in meetings was guarded so they went to the tennis court and created the Tennis Court Oath which said that they would stand for all of the people in the third estate
  • Storming of Bastille

    Storming of Bastille
    The National Assembly was going to meet in Versailles, however there were 800 Parisians were guarding the Bastille which was rumored to have gunpowder inside the prison. This day was a symbol of all the abuse from the Monarchy. To this day it is still the independence day.

    The Rights of Man
    The first act was the Rights of Man this stated that all men were born equal before the law, this also abolished the three estates. So the power was with the people now.

    The second act was the Women's March this was when women marched to Versailles and were angered at the life Marie Antoinette was living while all the other people starved. So the women demanded that the royal family moved to Paris where they were taken prisoner for the next three years.

    The National Assembly set a Civil Constitution over the French Catholic Church for the state's control. The clergy hated this.

    Threats from Abroad
    The King of Prussia and the Emperor of Austria, who was Marie Antoinette's brother, issued the Declaration of Pilnitz to protect the French Monarchy, the revolutionaries took the bluff seriously and prepared for war.

    Radicals take overThe war finaly took the battlefield between the French revolutionaries and the European monarchs. Since the other monarchs were afraid of their people trying to take over this is why the war started.

    Monarchy is abolished

    Monarchy is abolishedIt starts with a crowd of Parisians storming the royal palace of the Tuileries killikng all the guards however the royal family escaped. Then the citizens attacked prisons that help nobles and priests killing about 1,200 prisoners. January 21 1793 to show that they were getting rid of the monarchy they executed King Louis XVI. Then in October Marie Antoinette was executed as well.

    Reign of TerrorMaximilien Robespierre the incorruptible, when he was in control about 300,000 people were arrested and 17,000 of them were executed by false claims. July 27, 1794 he was arrested the next day he was executed.

    A strong sence of pride and devotion spread throughout France. Bringing the people closer and there were many more celebrations.

    Third Stage of the Revolution

    Third StageA third constitution is written saying that there should be a five man Directory and an two-house legistature elected by the male citezen of property. Peace was made with Prussia and Spain but war continued with others. In the the election of 1797 the supporters of the constitution monarchy won most of the legislative seats. The politicians turned to Napoleon who was a popular military hero who eventually outsmarted everyone and became the ruler of France.
