  • Assembly Line

    Assembly Line
    Who: Henry Ford
    What: He introduced the assembly line. Ford created a 250 feet long assembly line, which put parts of objects together. Most things are done by the machines. His company, "Ford Motor Company" made the assembly lines famous. His Model T car was a big hit at the time
    Where: This started in Detroit.
    When: He first introduced the assmebly line during October of 1913.
    Why: The assembly line made putting parts of an object together easier, without having as much manual labour.
  • Spanish Flu

    Spanish Flu
    Who: It affected those in their teen years, the elderly and those who are weak.
    What: It was called the Spanish Flu because in WW1, Spain was neutral, so they had no regard of the disease and the consequences.
    Where: This illness spread throughout the world
    When: lasted from March 1918 to June 1920
    Why: It was deprived from an unknown source, but most people think it started with the flu or from hte malnutrition of the soldiers.

  • Winnipeg General Strike

    Winnipeg General Strike
    Who:Winnipeg Builder's Exchange and the union came together to form a strike
    What: It was the most influential strike in Canadian History. Employees wanted to start a strike for the earning rights of Canadian workers. They wanted a wage increase after the war.
    Where: It took place in the streets of Winnipeg.
    When: The strike started on May 15, 1919 and ended on June 26, 1919
    Why: Workers were unhappy with the number of people that were unemployed and with the poor working conditions.
  • Prohibition in Canada

    Prohibition in Canada
    Who: Canadians were affected with this.
    What: Selling alcohol was strictly forbidden in Canada. Citizens were only able to purchase alcohol through the government for their studies, or as medicine. Many people pretended to be sick, so they could possess alcohol. Many booze runners also appeared to try and sell alcohol illegaly.

    When: This occured during the early 1920s
    Why: The Canadian made it forbidden to sell alcohol to reduce crime rates and to make citizens healthier.
  • Insulin

    Insulin
    Who: Insulin injections was discovered by Frederick Banting and two other collegues.
    What: Insulin is a treatment to help patients with diabetes. It was one of the greatest medical discoveries.
    Where: Insulin was discovered in Canada.
    When: Studies started on Oct, 1920. The first patient to have the first injection was on Jan 11, 1922
    Why: Type 1 diabetes was on the of the deadliest illnesses.
  • Group of Seven

    Group of Seven
    Who: Franklin Carmichael, Lawren Harris, A. Y. Jackson, Franz Johnston, Arthur Lismer, J. E. H. MacDonald, and Frederick Varley. Tom Thomson died in 1917.
    What: They are 7 Canadian artists who paint landscapes throughout Ontario. They split up during the war, but after the war they got back together.
    Where: They painted mostly in Ontario, especially in the Muskoka an Algoma regions.
    When: They painted during the 1920s.
    Why; The each had a passion for art.

    Prime Minister: Mackenzie King
    Who; His name is Mackenzie King
    What: He was the 10th Prime Minister
    Where: The Prime Minister of Canada
    When: He was in office from Dec 29, 1921 to June 28, 1926, Sept 25,1926 toAug 6, 1930,and Oct 23, 1935 to Nov 15 1948
    Why: He led Canada through WW2 and helped them go survuve the conscription crisis.

    Foster Hewitt and Hockey Night in Canada
    Who: Foster Hewitt
    What: He was a Canadian broadcaster for Hockey Night in Canada. His famous phrase was "He shoots, He scores!." During the hockey nights, we would cramp himself in a small box, above the hockey rink, and broadcast from there.

    When: He started to braodcast for Hockey Night in Canada in 1922, and continued for 40 years.
  • Chinese Exclusion Act

    Chinese Exclusion Act
    Who: This affected people of Chinese background.
    What: The government banned the Chinese from immagrating into Canada. The Chinese had to register 12 months after act was put in place with the government if they wanted to stay in Canada. They also had to reister with the government if they wanted to leave the country.

    Who: women
    What: Most women were allowed to vote.
    Where: In many provinces, they were given the right to vote. This excluded women of different ethnic backgrounds such as Asians.
    When: The law passed in 1929.
    Why: The Famous 5 protested to allow women to have their rights and to be defined as a 'person'.
  • Black Tuesday

    Who: This event affected everyone around the world.
    What: The stock market lost about 40%. The pricing of houses went up as well, and many jobs were lost.
    Where: The event of the stock market crashing happened all over the world, after the war.
    When: The crash started on Oct, 29 1929
    Why: People realized that the stocks that they were buying were actually way over priced. They started selling their stocks off at lower prices, which caused the stock market to crash

    Who: R.B. Bennett
    What: He was the 11th Prime Minister. Bennett came up with the Canadian version of the New Deal, which promised maximum work hours, minumum wage, and better working conditions.
    Where: He was the Prime Minister of Canada
    When; He served from Aug, 7 1930 to Oct, 23 1935, This was during the Great Depression.
    Why: He defeated Mackenzie King in the election of 1930

    Who: the statue was applied to the 6 dominions of 1930, which was the Dominion of Canada, the Commonwealth of Australia, the Irish Free State, the Dominion of Newfoundland, the Dominion of New Zealand, and the Union of South Africa.
    What: The statue marked the effective legislative independence of the british empire and the united kingdom
    Where:The statue is located in United Kindgom
    When: The Statue of Westminister was created in the 1930s

    Who: R.B.Bennett, the Prime Minister of Canada during this time.
    What: He came up with the Canadian Version of the New Deal. The New Deal promised workers with maximum hours of work, a minimum wage, better working conditions and many more.
    Where: It took place in Canada
    When: This economic program took place during 1933-1938
    Why: The government and citizens wanted to focus on relief, recovery and reform from the damages done by the war.
