Nat Turner's Rebellion
Nat Turner lead a rebellion to lead by Nat Turner to kill as many whites on plantations as they could. He did this because he had visions that told him to do that. He thought those visions were mesages from god. -
Fugitive Slave Act
A law was passed so that Northerners had to capture runaway slaves. A man called Henry Clay passed this law. The North didn't like this because slavery was illegal in the North but they had to capture slaves. -
Compromise of 1850
Henry Clay made laws to please the North and the south. To please the South people in New Mexico and Utah could vote for slavery in their territory. To please the North, California was admitted as a free state. So the Northerners started to accuse the Southerners of spreading slavery and the Southerners started to accuse the Northerners of abolishing slavery. -
Dred Scott Decision
A free slave Dred Scott was brought back into slavery. The north got mad. They also thought that they should consider blacks citizens. Blacks were considered property. -
John Brown Rebellion
The John Brown rebellion was a rebellion lead by John Brown. His sons and a group of followers also joined the rebellion. They managed to kill some Southerners. Later John was killed. -
Election of 1860
The election of 1850 was the day one of the USA's most famous presidents was elected. His name was Abe Lincoln. He was against slavery. He won the election without one single vote from the South.
