Christianity is introduced
Christianity was introduced in Caucasian Albania after immigrants from Armenia and Georgia settled in the Western region of current Azerbaijan. Zoroastrianism was the religion before. This picture shows a Christian church that was built in the 3rd century by Christians living in the Western region. -

Muslim Arabs invade Caucasian Albania
In 642 A.D., as the Roman control was weakening, Muslims, part of the Islamic Empire, invaded current day Azerbaijan and introduced their new religion. Most people converted because they were scared of the colonizers. Because of this chaos, Caucasian Albania was destroyed. This picture is of a mosque that was finished in the 12th century. -

Turkic tribes invade
Turbic tribes that were part of Central Asia invaded and ended the Arab control. With them they brought the Turkish language and customs. During this period, many architectural and art pieces that are still honored today were made. This is a stone carving of a Seljuks' cavalry, or a group of military men on horseback. -
Russo-Persian War
The Russian czar, Alexander I wanted countries near the Caspian Sea, and so did the Persian king, Fath Ali. The treaty was that Russia got the area north of the Araks River, and Persia got the area to the South. The painting is called Live Bridge and it is of an unpleasant scene when to cross a river bank with horses and carriages, the Russians put bodies on the bottom of the bank as if to make a bridge. -
Oil Boom
The discovery of oil was massive, it later made Azerbaijan one of the biggest oil producing country in the world by 1900. The production itself made workers from all around come to get jobs which increased the GDP. The picture shows one of the first oil mines in Azerbaijan at that time. -
Short Independence
The independence created a new form of government that made the country prosperous in this short time, believed in representing minorities. This is a picture of the Democratic Republic established in the country in 1918. -
Nagorno-Karabakh War
This photo shows a mother and a child, both refugees from Karabakh, an area where there was a conflict at that time. Children were killed at one time mostly and the mother seems to be running away because of that.
