  • Gulf of Tonkin Incident

    On August 2, 1964, three North Vietnamese patrol boats attack the American destroyer U.S.S. Maddox in the Gulf of Tonkin which was ten miles off the coast of North Vietnam.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
    On August 7, 1964, the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was passed which gave LBJ the authority to retaliate againsed North Vietnam Forces. People feared he would utilize his new jurisdiction to stengthen the U.S's intervention with the Vietnam War.

    The first ani-war teach-in was held at the University of Michigan. This gathering was orchestrated by two hundred faculty members and the SDS (Students for a Democratic Scociety) then was soon later duplicated by many other universities around the country.
  • The Prohibition of Burning Draft Cards

    On August 30, 1965, LBJ signed a bill that outlawed the act of burning or destroying a draft card for the Vietnam War.

    On March 25, 1966, a protest was held in New York City on 5th Avenue where roughly 25,000 people gathered to dissent againsed the Vietnam War.
