    In 1889 Lincoln Steffens graduated from the University of California at Berkley, right after that he went to study at universities in Germany with Wilhelm Wundt and with Jean-Martin Charcot in France.

    He later returned to the United States in 1892 to the state of New York. Steffens became the reporter for the New York Evening Post learning how to make and investigate articles on economic conditions, local politics, and culture which he was facinated in. He had soon become the newspaper's first police reporter.
