Declaration of Independence
Creates independence for both the North and the South, it says that every man is equal doesn't say anything about slavery. Both the North and the South are together and are happy that they have obtained independence from the British. -
Constitutional Convention
It was held in Philapedhipa to discuss the Articles of Confederation, delegates from the five states came. All the states were together to help the new America to evolve. Both the South and the North were together to help. -
Missouri Compromise
Missouri enters as a slave state and Maine enters as a free state.The North wants no more slavery while the South is encouraging it, there is sectionalism. Sectionalism; loyalty to the interests of one's own region or section of the country, rather than to the country as a whole. There is no slavery above the 36 30 latitude line. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
"Uncle Tom's Cabin" written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, it sketches what were things that truly happened to the slaves. It showed the truth behind slavery. The book went worldwide and the South was furious because the book made slavery sound bad and this wasn't good because they wanted to convince the goverment that they should have more slave states not less. While the North was happy that a book finally made people see the truth. They were happy, slavery might actually end... -
Dred Scott Case
Dred Scott was a slave that worked for John Emerson, he was a doctor for the army. He had brought Dred wherever he went, even free states, Dred thought that is was unfair and wanted freedom hence to the fact that he had stayed in free states. He went to court to ask for freedom, the North thought that this was good to show a figure that slaves should stand up for themselves. Whilst the South didn't want any slaves to rebel but than to be scared to be free. Sectionalism had clearly started. -
House Divided Speech
Speech given by Abraham Lincoln at the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield, he talked about the problem that was happeing with sectionalism and how the South had recently seceded from the Union. "A house divided by itself cannot stand." It said that a half is not as strong as a whole. He said that the Union needed to be a whole and be strong together instead of being separated. In a way Lincoln forshawed the war that was about to come at Fort Sumter. -
The Battle at Fort Sumter
The Union was trying to bring supplies to the Confederate States of America, when they out of nowhere started to fire at the Union. They had said that they were going to be one again but they still wanted slavery. This was the Civil War, in the end the North won and the South become one with the United States Of America. There was no slavery left in U.S.A. This finalized sectionalism as well as the debating over slavery.
