Aaron Yau - How I came to be Timeline

  • [Event] Tripped on Chin

    This was the first time I got severely hurted. I tried over a carpet at a clubhouse and my chin was bruised for a few months. I graduated kindergarten with a bruised chin. It was painful, but it taught me to be cautious about my surroundings and be careful about my own body. Although it was a tragic and scarring experience, it really changed me and made me "grow up"
  • [Event] Car Crash

    This was the first time I got into a serious car crash. I was in a taxi and the taxi was going extremely fast at around 100km an hour on a 50km/h road. It was scary as the driver as going fast. The crash happened at Prince Edward/Kowloon City. The taxi reared a Toyota Echo and injured the passenger in there. It was a traumatising experience. From that time on I have always told myself to not drive fast cars but as I am getting older I have a sudden interest in cars.

    [Person] Grandma's Lesson on Safety

    My grandma, whom I lived with from kindergarten to 7th grade, had been my main caretaker. I was a wild kid when I was younger, I was active and always on the move. My grandma was a cautious person, and she taught me danger as I often do not look at the lights/road, and cross and I am a very careless person. She had taught me to be careful with myself and my surroundings.
  • [Event] Getting Lost in Japan

    This was a long time ago but it still changed me forever. I was 6 at the time and was lost all by myself in a foreign country where I do not speak the language. I was super scared as I was still young and I had no mobile phones then and was crying for a long time. Luckily this situation had taught me to be strong and independent and some people were nice enough to bring me to a safe place afterwards

    This was the first time I've changed schools and I was afraid. I was changing from a traditional school to an international school. At first, I was bullied for my accents and my behaviour because I was not used to the new environment, This was a rough switch as it is new for me, I was afraid, and cried a lot. Through this I became stronger and more independent and made many friends.

    Mrs. G, who is my second grade homeroom teacher, now the principle of my school, and always comforted me in the hard times of school. I was struggling with English a lot when I first came. She was very helpful and understanding to me. I still remembered her very well and she is always feel like a guardian to me.

    Mrs. Kwok, my with grade homeroom teacher, was one of my favourite teachers. She had taught me to improve myself and not to boast on my success. She was very influential to me as she was caring and leading me through my times. She was the person who taught me to strive for the best and work hard

    I left my old school as I was not feeling good there. I do not feel like I was learning anything. It was 7 years since I have changed schools. I thought it was going to be an easy switch from one international school to another, but it was harder than I thought. I had to put in effort to make new friends and luckily some people have my back here

    She is definitely one of my best friends who listens to me and always have my back. She is the one person who will always be on my side and support me and she is the one who shape me to the person I am today. She makes me speak up about myself and if I don't she would do it so basically the word will still get out but I am thankful for having her for my back

    Throughout the mentor project, she had taught me quite a few lessons.
    1. I do not have to be friends with everyone
    2. Don't let everyone hurt you for what they say
    3. Trust God and his ways
    4. Don't always hide my feelings to myself, speak it out
  • [Event] Mongolia Service Trip

    This service trip for WWW 2019 was really different than some school oversea trip I've done. I have never done a service trip. It made me realise how lucky and fortunate I was to be born in a adequate family and be able to learn so much. It felt different and it was a life changing trip.

    2019 summer was wild as I went to the city of Los Angeles by myself and attended an entrepreneurship course. It was an eye opening trip. I have experience the city of life and where all the creators are from. It is a city I would love to live in. I have met a lot of nice people from all around the world and created many bonds and friendships.

    Vida was a different experience for me. It felt like I was being out of reality to bond with God. I remember Mrs. Stephens talk about relations with parents and taught me to cherish them. I did enjoy the 3 day at school and now I am working for vida to provide this experience to others.
  • [Event] Oxygen Retreat

    This freshman retreat was a lot of bonding with my friends and strengthen my relationships with my friends. Although it was not the most fun or the best time I ever had, I enjoy the feeling of being out of the city and know more about relaxing and physical and mental wellbeing
  • [Event] Volleyball Team

    Thos was the first time I was ever in a sports team and I know if I do not join user 16 years old I would never have the chance to. It definitely had a rough start, but at the end it was a great bonding time with my teammates and learn more about team building and working together.

    Tai was my teacher when I was in summer school of LA. She had taught me self love and self care, to fight for my dreams and say everything is possible if you work hard. She was very inspirational towards meeting her own goals and making her goal coming true as she strives for it. She was also funny and understanding and I look up to her as a really hard working person. She is also an single mom which I was inspired on how she has so much time and energy for her life, which I respect much of.

    [Person] Gabriel on Walk with God

    Gabriel, from YL, had taught me that a walk with God does not have to be hard. He was always excited and brought me to these clubs and even to Vancouver this summer to experience God. I am very thankful for him to be with me and always include me in every situation and invited me to many clubs and games.
  • [Person] Grandpa taught me not to Cherish earthly matters

    When I started to buy expensive designer clothing and started wearing them, my grandpa had told me that not to show my wealth into my clothes and to be more modest. I remembered this one day where it was the release day of the new yeezy (nov 29 Black Friday) and I brought my new shoes to my grandparents house which he told me about his story on not spending money on designer clothing.

    My dad, who is a lab technician, understand the concept of germs and bacteria fully as well as the dangers behind it.
    Throughout the corona virus, he had taught me to be cautious and always wash my hands. I am always sick, and he always cares for me when I am not feeling well. I have been sick from eating unclean food off the ground but he simply disagree with the 5 second rule. I became more cautious of germs because of him.

    Throughout these few years, I've been struggling with some of my friendships. My mom reassures me that I do not need to be a crowd pleaser and also not everyone has to like me in order to succeed. She taught me to cherish my besets friends and people who do harm to me can be out of my life
