Imperialism if known as "the art of taking over the world".The formal definition is country using military forces to over throw and claim someone else land.     The Assassination of Franz Ferdinand
    Franz Ferdinand, an archduke of Austria who was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip on June 28, 1914. Franz wife was also assassinated. This was the spark that ignited the explosion of the First World War. First Austria delivered an ultimatum to Serbia which was practically ignored. A war that would last two years was just beginning. 70 Million Military personal casualties, and 7 million civilians lives were lost.     The first battle fought in the first World War. The French Allies won the battle against the German Empire. This began four years of trench warfare on the Western Front. Trench warfare is way a fighting a battle, it had its problems. Troops stayed in trenches for months they had to stand in water, as their feet literally decay off.     The Battle of Kilimanjaro took place in German, East Africa. The Kilimanjaro was an early battle during the First World War. The plan was to invade the German colony. The plan was made by a Mombasa staff conference with General Aruther Aitken who was in command.     In 1915 a German submarine torpedoed the British ship named “the Lusitania”. This took the lives of 128 Americans. That's when Americans started to dislike Germany.     The Battle of Hill 60 took place near the western front on West-of Hill 60. The German 30th division had captured Hill 60 Hill on November 11th 1914 during the First Battle of Ypres. The french prepared to take over the hill before and the British continued that mission. This took the line over in February 1915.     Many battle were fought near Krithia, during 1915. The village of Krithia was named after the Greek word "Barley". After the first battle in Krithia there were three mire battles.     The Battle of Festubert was an attack by the British army to the German Army. It took place on the Western front during World war I. The battle lasted threes days,the British wanted to cut wire and demolish German machine-gun post and infantry strong-points.     During September 25 to October 13 1915. It took place in France on the Western Front during the first World war. It was the biggest British attack of the war, because it was the first time they used poison gas and mass engagement Army units. France and Britain tried to defeat German defenses and restore a war.     The Battle of the Somme was between the armies of Britain and France. The battle is also nicknamed "The Somme Offensive". It was one of the largest battle of the war.     An act that authorized the President to increase the size of the military of the United States. Twenty-four million men between the ages of 18 and 45 were to be drafted.The Act was made by the Brigadier General, Hugh S. Johnson.     Espionage Act
    A 1917 law that set heavy fines for anti-war activity & draft dodging. Draft dodging is when someone avoids military service. Anti-war activity is promoting and encuraging that war is bad. Also many people who protested about drafts would be put in jail.   • Abe Caylor Enlists

    Abe Caylor Enlists
    On June 25, 1917, Abe Caylor signed up with the Army. And by 5 p.m. he was on a train for St. Louis, a recruit with D Troop of the 12th Cavalry. Caylor was interviewed and asked if he remembered the day he enlisted, he said he didn't remember.     A 1918 law that made speaking out against the war illegal. This law was later pulled for being unconstitutional. The problem is that people would open their mouth about war and it could be fatal to the troops fighting. Troops could talk about where they are and what their doing, where they're going.     The Abe was sent with the Calvary was sent to the Panama Canal during World War 1. Him and the other troops were there to protect the vital waterway. There was fear of an attack by the German Navy. They feared sabotage by local guerrillas using the war to further their nationalist aims.     Abe was with the D Troop of them U.S. Cavalry Regiment. His horse was named dusty. If you rode with troop D your house had to be given a name that started with the letter 'D'.   • A set back

    A set back
    Caylor was in Calvary in the Panama Canal from 1918-1919. A huge rock, the size of a house had fallen from a landslide and blocked the canal. It took 9 months to clear it all out. Abe's job, along with many others was to ride horses and carry materials from one side of the Canal to the other.     Abe lied about his age when he went into the army. He told them was 18 when he was really 16. They caught up to him after 2 years of service.     The U.S. did not officially and properly end its involvement in the war until July 2, 1921. When the Knox–Porter Resolution was signed by President Harding. After the Treaty of Versailles, treaties with Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire were signed. The Versailles Treaty was signed on June 28, 1919.
