Lincoln Douglass Debates
Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglass both battle for a senatorial seat from the state of Illinois. This is the first time that the public hears Lincoln's name in politics. Stephen Douglass outlasts Lincoln to win the senatorial seat. -
Lincoln is elected President of the United States of America
Lincoln beats 3 other candidates in the general election. They were Breckenridge, Bell, and Douglass. Lincoln won the support of the North and also California and Oregon which had the most amount of electoral college votes. -
S.C. secedes
Due to the election of Lincoln S.C. seceded from the Union. After S.C. many other southern states seceded. They then formed their own country called the Confederate States. -
Fort Sumter
Fort Sumter was fired on by the Confederate Army. They were led by the great general Lee. This marked the start of a long civil war. -
Battle of Bull Run
This battle was the first battle of the Civil War. The Union troops were led by general McDowell. At the end of the battle the Confederates won. -
Emancipation Proclaimation
Abraham Lincoln issued this document called the Emancipation Proclaimation. It stated the all persons held as slaves were henceforth free. This was a huge victory for all blacks that were slaves. -

The Battle of Gettysburg is considered as a turning point of the war. Many casualties occurred during this war. The Union won this battle. -

Abraham Lincoln gives his most popular speech. It was a 200 or so word speech. He said this speech at a ceremony at a cemetery where the Battle of Gettysburg took place. -
13th Amendment
The 13th Amendment to the Constitution fully abolished slavery in the United States. Everyone that was a slave was now considered to be free and have the unalienable rights of any citizen. Slavery would now never occur in the U.S. -
End of Civil War
The Civil War officially comes to an end in 1865. General Lee of the Confederate Army officially surrenders to the Union. He surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia. -
Lincoln's Death
Abraham Lincoln dies one day after John Wilkes Booth shoots him. John Wilkes Booth shot him at a place called Fords theater. LIncoln dies in a place called Peterson Boarding House just across the street from Ford's theater.
