Proclamation of 1763

1763

This act was passed after Britain won the Seven Year War prohibiting Native Americans from settling in North American land, and keep them east of the mountains. The colonist disliked this act because they felt that England was trying to keep them under strict control and because of the taxes.

Sugar Act

1764

This act increased the duty of molasses from 2d to 3d. it also complimented the Navigation act enforcing them to unload cargo in Britain and paying taxes before shipping it to the colonies. And it added hash, skins, and potatoes to the list of things that could be legally exported.

Quartering Act of 1765

1765

This act required colonies to provide food and shelter for British soldiers during the war. the colonies opposed this act because they had to pay taxes for provision and barracks for soldiers.

Stamp Act

1765

This act raised the tax on stamps for document for the revenue of the British. This resulted in a great uprising from the colonies which resulted in this act being nullified.

Declaratory Act

1766

This was passed to affirm it power to pass laws for the colonies. It was also a repeal to the Stamp Act. The colonies disliked this act because they knew that more laws were coming which meant Parliament having more power over them.

Townsend Act

1767

this act imposed import duties on item such paint, tea, glass, and paper. the revenue was used for salaries for officers and other government officials. this result in protest that led to the Boston Massacre.

The Boston Massacre

1770

This was a confrontation between British soldiers and Americans after killing five men during a Protest. They were protesting against The Townsend Act and its taxation on goods such as tea, glass, paper, and paint.

The Tea Act

May 10, 1773

This act gave permission to the East India Company to import and export tea to the American colonies. The colonies did not favor this act which resulted in the Boston Tea Party were crates of tea were dumped overboard.

The Boston Tea Party

This was political protest, that resulted from the Tea Act, were angry American colonist dumped 342 cases of tea in the harbor in Boston, Massachusetts. they were protesting "No taxation without representation".

The Intolerable Act

Mar 31, 1774

Theses laws were passed in response to the Boston Tea Party to punish the Massachusetts colonist for their protest by taxing them. the colonist responded by creating the First Continental Congress.

First Continental Congress

Sep 15, 1774

The First Continental Congress was meeting between 12 of 13 colonies were the whole purpose to form a unity and boycott British goods to force the British to repeal the Intolerable Act.
