Ghana Empire

Ghana’s core people lived as early as 300 CE, but the date of the dynasty beginning is unidentified. It was located in western Africa and present day Ghana. The Ghana empire was located in present day Ghana. The empire ended at 1235 CE. The capital of the Ghana empire or Wagadou empire was Koumbi Saleh. Also their official languages were Soninke and Mande.

Great Zimbabwe

Mali Empire

Mali empire began in the 1230’s and ended in the 1600’s. It was located in present-day country of Mali, southern and western Mauritania and Senegal. The Mali empire was founded by Sundiata Keita. Also, the people of Mali practiced the religion Islam.

Songhai

Songhai empire began in 1340 and ended in 1591. It was located in present day western Africa. Their government was a monarchy, and they practiced Islam as their religion. The capital of the Songhai empire was Gao and the official language was Songhai.

Yoruba/Oro Empire

Yoruba (Oyo) empire: It began in 1400 and ended in 1904.At its height from mid-seventeenth century to late eighteenth century. In Western Africa and had almost all of the Yoruba-speaking people under its control. Had a strong military and political system, and was the only African empire to use a cavalry.
