Missouri Compromise
The Missouri compromise was to preserve the balance of power between slave and Free states. This compromise admitted that Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state. -
13th Amendment
The 13th amendment was passed at the end of the Civil War before the Southern states had been restored to the Union and should have been easily passed the Congress. This amendment abolished slavery in the United States, and solved many problems that were occurring. -
15th Amendment
This amendment granted rights to African American men to be granted the right to vote. This amendment is the last of the three Reconstruction amendments ratified in the aftermath of the civil rights. -

Harlem Renaissance
With African Americans wanting to make a better life for themselves during 1914-1918 they migrated north from the rural South. As Harlem was a popular place for them to settle. As a result of all this Harlem became a sophisticated artistic and literary center for the African Americans. Some even became famous, This time span was a big influence on many people. -
Emmett Till Murder
Emmett Till was born on July 25th 1941; he was born in Chicago, Illinois. When he was the age of fourteen he went to visit relatives in Mississippi. With a simple, ”Hi Baby” to a white store owners wife he was taken from a house the house of Mose Wright, Mose was being tied up by the men, as Emmett tried to help they took him as well and he was brutally killed by being shot in the head, and dumped into a river. Many people reacted this is tragedy, whites even felt bad for him. -
Rosa Parks bus boycott
More Information on Rosa ParksThis will be a day that will always be remembered for an African American woman protecting her spot on a local bus. Rosa worked as a seamstress, and was riding the bus home from work. She sat near the middle of the bus, where there are 10 seats reserved just for the whites.The bus driver insisted that all four blacks move so that a white man could sit where they were sitting Rosa quietly refused to move her spot on the bus, and was arrested and convicted of violating the laws of segregation -
I Have a Dream Speech
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his speech during the massive “March on Washington for jobs and freedom” at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. After Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech was given many federal acts were made in the future. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr died on April 4th, 1968 by a sniper bullet someone shot him while he was standing on a balcony. He will always be remembered and will always be celebrated for his outstanding accomplishments. -
Sixteenth Street Baptist Church
On Sunday morning, the Ku Klux Klan bombed the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham Alabama killing four girls. As the bombing came without any warning it brought black and white people together at the funeral. As many whites felt bad for the bombing, the girls before the bombing were in the basement and talking about their excitement for their first days of school. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
The civil rights act forbids discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, and national origin. The passage ended with the “Jim Crow” Laws which were to make races “separate but equal.” This act was successful and it helped many things during these rough times. -
Loving V. Virginia
In the 1967 case the U.S. Supreme Court bans different race’s to marry. In Virginia they had a law against whites marrying Asians, Native Americans, and ex. At one time as many as 41 states had such prohibitions to being married to a different colored rase. I don’t think it should matter what color you are it should only matter if you’re in love.
