Betamax is introduced
The Betamax video player system is introduced in 1975 at a cost of $1,300.00 per player. Eventually the VHS deck dominates the market (1977). This event is important to me as everyone had a VHS player when I was growing up in the late 1980's and early 1990's! My children will never know the feeling of going to the video stroe to pick out a VHS tape for the weekend, or being charged a fee if you were not kind and did not rewind! -
Apple II is introduced
The Apple II, the first fully assembled personal computer was introduced. Within 20 years 2 out of every 5 households will have a computer. This event is important as it is hard today to think of any household not having some form of computer device or way to get on the Internet, whether it be a phone or a tablet of somekind. -
The Sony Walkman makes its appearance
The walkman was a staple on every teenagers hip during the early 1980's. To be able to take your music everywhere was amazing! Cassette tapes were great as they were small and you could take several with you. Children today will not have to know the struggle of winding one back up with a pencil! -
Sell of the microwave oven soar
The microwave oven has been around since 1947, however it did not take off till the 1980's. It is now hard to think of a household today without a microwave (or two). My father worked for a furniture store when I was born (1979) and he got one of the 1980's style microwaves. It lasted forever and was still in my mom's house when I left for college. It had a turn knob to set the time and no turn table, but I remember it being the best microwave ever! -
The CD makes its make
The CD becomes available in 1983. Soon the cassette tape is a thing of the past and by the early 1990's the Walkman has been replaced by a portable CD player! Now with the inventation of Ipods and Itunes, young people will never have to know the struggle to keep a CD from skipping as you walk down the street!
