    The XYZ Affair was an attempt to pay off Americans by the French. The French had been capturing American merchant ships. An American delegation traveled to France and bribed before formal dealings could begin. This was considered highly offensive and enraged most Americans.

    This Act closed off trade between American and the warring nations of France and Britian in an attempt to prevent America having to take sides. This only wrecked the American economy and did prevent them from having to take sides

    Known as the "Second War for Independence", this war was fought against the British due to their snatching of Amerian sailors off of ships and forcing them to serve in the British Navy. This practice was called impressment. Americans were angered by this and called for a decaliration of war which they recieved on this date.

    The Treaty of Ghent would be the treaty that ended the War of 1812. It restored the seperation of the two nations once more. No territory or people changed hands in this treaty. It did not beome official until ratified by the US Senate in February of 1815.
