    The Magna Carta was a charter issued by king John of England in 1215 to address grievances raised by the people. The 63 clauses of this revolutionary document are packed with fundamental principals that have helped shape constitutional documents the world over. This document founded ideals of all men having equal rights and equal opportunity.The Magna Carta limited the power of the king something that had never been done before.
  • Jamestown

    Jamestown was the first permanent settlement in the new world. The colony, established by the London company of Virginia, was populated by English gentleman seeking to find gold. The ailing colony was racked by disease , hunger ,and native attacks. It wasn't until leaders like John Smith and John Ralph stepped in and brought order and economic stability that the colony began to thrive.

    The declaration of independence was a document drawn up by the second continenetal congressthat declared the colinies independent of great britan . Written by Thomas Jefferson this document justifies the decision of the colinies by listing grievences against the king. The Declaration is significant beacause it helped the colinies unite and break free of british rule.

    In 1803 president Thomas Jefferson purchased 828,000,000square miles of land west of the mississippi river from France. The U.S. bought the property for 15 million dollars , less than ten cents an acre. The purchase doubled the size of the U.S. and gave the nation the use of the important port of New Oreleans.

    The steamboat was invented in 1807 by Robert Fulton. They were useful because they could travel both up and down stream. They were faster than any other riverboat and they completely revolutionized river commerce.

    The trail of tears was a result of the indian removal act under president Andrew Jackson.President Jackson pursued a policy of removal against tribes like the cherokee in order to sieze the land for settlers, hoping to move West.More than 5000 Cherokees perished on the way to their new lands West of the Mississippi River.

    The California Gold Rush was a period when thousands of people migrated to the newly aqquired California territory with hopes of finding gold. The rush started in 1848 when James Marshall found gold while building a sand mill John Sutter. The rush exploded California's population so much that it was sooon able to become a state.

    Seneca Falls Convention
    The Seneca Falls Convention was the first women's rights convention in the U.S..It was organized by two women's rights advocates Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lecretia Mott. The mission of the convention was to draw attention to the unfair treatment of women. The event was attended by 300 people , 40 of them men.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Emancipation Proclamation
    The Emancipation Proclimation was an announcement made by president Lincon halfway through the cival war that freed the slaves in the confederate states. This proclamation brought joy to the hearts of the enslaved peoples of the South though it angered their former owners. This event is important because it caused a drop in moral for the confederate soldiers and many former slaves entered the army , greatly increasing Union numbers.
  • Lincon's Assassination

    Lincon's Assassination
    On April 4th 1865 at ten fifteen John Wilkes Booth entered Lincon's box at the Ford's theater and shot him in the back of his head with a .44-caliber single shot derringer. At 7:22 am the next morning lincon was pronounced dead.The nation still ii the midst of celebrating the end of the cival war was heartbroken. this event though tragic helped to unite our fair country.
