    Jamestown was the first permanent settlement in the new country. It was founded 13 years before the pilgrams landed in Plymouth. It was chartered by King James I.

    The settlers were mad about the tax on tea. They dumped over 92,000 pounds of tea off of British ships. The British responded with the Intolerable Acts.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    Thomas Jefferson purchased the Louisiana territory from the French. He paid $15 million. This expansion nearly completed manifest destiny.
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    The war lasted 2 and a half years. The war was on both land and in water. America got our nation anthem during this war.
  • "Uncle Tom's Cabin"

    "Uncle Tom's Cabin"
    Uncle Tom's Cabin was written to inspire northerns to help stop slavery in the south. The book "helped lay down the groundwork for the Civil War." Hariet Beecher Stowe wrote it and got it published in 1852.

    Lincoln's Election
    The north was estactic about Lincoln's election while the south was angered. Lincoln was against slavery and made it very obvious but he didn't want the Union to fall apart. Eventually Lincoln sent the Union into war with the confederacy.

    A year after Lincoln's election he had to send the north into war with the south. The south was now its own country and most if not all slave states had seceded. One of the main reasons for the war was slavery.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    This was one of Lincoln's most famous speeches. This speech stopped slavery and made all slaves free on January first. Lincoln gave this speech during the third year of the Civil War.
  • Gettysburg Address

    Gettysburg Address
    Gettysburg Address was another one of Lincoln's famous speeches. While this was a short speech, it is one we still know today. LIncoln wrote it in memory of the fallen soldiers at the Battle of Gettysburg.
  • Lincoln Assassination

    Lincoln was enjoying a play at Ford's Theatre when he was shot. John Wilkes Booth was responsible for Lincoln's assassination. He died only a year after the Civil War had ended.
