  • Jamestown, Virginia is founded

    John Smith, after years of difficulties in the colony, was able to get help from the Powhatans to help save the colony. The relationship between the two would not last long. Jamestown became one of the first colonies to produce tobacco.
  • King Charles I is beheaded

    King Charles I was beheaded for treason after he surrendered to the Scottish Army. This ended the monarch government Britain had been using.
  • French and Indian War

    The English defeated the French and wiped out most of the Huron Native Americans and awarded Britain even more land in America. Britain would then try and prevent colonists from expanding into this new territory in fear of retaliations from other Native American ties.
  • Volitaires Candide Published

    Voltaire was one of the greatest, if not the greatest, philosopher at the time. His novel Candide revolutionized the way people viewed life and the government.
  • Stamp Act is passed

    After years of salutary neglect the British began imposing taxes on the colonists. This outraged Americans and forced the British to repeal the tax, a major victory for colonial independence.
  • John Quincy Adams is born in Braintree

  • Boston Tea Party

    Bostonian dressed as Native Americans and threw tea into the port. The British then closed down the ports until they were repaid for the lost tea. Thanks to the Intolerable Acts Britain had the power to impose such sanctions.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Continental Congress met and signed the Declaration of Independence uniting the patriots of the United States of America. Thus began the united fight to remove Britain from America.
  • JQA sails to France with his father John Adams

  • US Constitution

    The Articles of Confederation were proven to weak and forced the government's hand to create the US Constitution. This split people into two parties, the Federalists, who supported a stronger federal government, and the anti-Federalists, who thought states should hold the power.
  • JQA is appointed minister of Holland

  • Edward Jenner discovers vaccination to smallpox

    Edward Jenner discovered that milkmaids that had been exposed to smallpox were not able to be infected by it again. This gave him the idea to summit the patient to a small amount of the disease to teach the body how to fight it off.
  • JQA Marries Louisa Catherine Johnson

  • JQA Elected to U.S. Senate

  • Louisianna Purchase

    Napoleon began to look for a way to get rid of his land in America when Haiti began to rebel. Ben Franklin negotiated the Louisiana purchase and was able to double America's land for an incredibly low price.
  • Napoleon becomes emperor of France

    Napoleon proclaimed himself emperor and his wife empress, taking the crown from the pope. He crowned himself then his wife.
  • War of 1812

  • War of 1812

    The War of 1812 was a devastating blow to America since the British army was much too powerful. The white house was destroyed and none of the goal that America set out to achieve were completed.
  • JQA Appointed Head of the Commission

  • John Quincy Adams Elected 6th president of the US

  • John Quincy Adams passes away in the House of Rep.
