    Bulgaria and Turkey join Germany and Austria-Hungary in the Central Powers. France, England, Russia (later Japan and Italy) join the Allied Powers. This occurred I August of 194, thus maiking it the first event leading up to the world war.
  • Wilson declares U.S. neutrality

    Wilson declares U.S. neutrality
    On 4 August 1914 U.S. President Woodrow Wilson addressed Congress and made public the U.S. policy of neutrality. During his address he warned U.S. citizens against taking sides in the war for fear of endangering the wider U.S. policy. This definitely affected WW1.
  • Germany Declares War

    Hermann Bauer- the leader of the German submarine service, had suggested in October 1914 that the U-boats could be used to attack commerce ships and raid their cargoes, thus scaring off imports to Britain, including those from neutral countries. Early the following month, Britain declared the North Sea a military area, warning neutral countries that areas would be mined and that all ships must first put into British ports, where they would be searched for possible supplies.

    The Sussex Pledge was a promise made in 1916 during World War 1 by Germany to the United States before the latter's entry into the war. Early in 1915, Germany had instituted a policy of unrestricted submarine warfare, allowing armed merchant ships, (Not passenger ships) to be torpedoed without warning.

    The United States presidential election of 1916 was the 33rd presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 7, 1916. It a a close election, but Wilson pulled through. The final votes were 272 to 252, with Charles E Hughs shortly behind.

    The foreign minister- Zimmerman asks Mexico to join Germany in exchange for the return of the southwest U.S. British intercept message. This telegram proposed a military alliance between Germany and Mexico in the event of the United States' entering World War I against Germany. It definitely affected the war.

    Led by Bernard Baruch, the WIB set prices and also determined what goods should be produced by private industry. This was done during World War I, to coordinate the purchase of war supplies. This helped supply in time of need.

    World War I officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919, which made it the most important peace treaty. It ended the feud between Germany and the Allied Powers. It was signed exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
