  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    These battles were the first major conflict of the American Revolution, and were the result of many years of increasing tension between Britain and its colonies. With its victory, the colonists proved that they could stand up to one of the most powerful countries in the world. Perhaps the most notable figure present was John Revere on his famous Midnight Ride, accompanied by Samuel Prescott and William Dawes.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    The British achieved their goalof driving the colonists from the Charlestown peninsula, but they suffered heavy casualties which makes the victor debatable. For the British, this battle gave them the positions of Bunker and Breed’s Hill, and for the colonists, this battle showed them how difficult it would be to utilize an army effectively as it was the first use of the Continental Army. Figures in this battle included Israel Putnam and Artemas Ward against British General Howe.
  • Battle of Princeton

    Battle of Princeton
    This battle was fought by the American forces led George Washington and the British forces led by Lord Cornwallis. Because of his excellent leadership and strategy, Washington was able to evade an encirclement by the British forces and accomplish several victories in combat. The success of this battle showed the leadership ability of George Washington and proved that America could certainly outmatch Britain in the war.
  • Battle of Monmouth

    Battle of Monmouth
    This battle pitted the Americans against British forces and their German allies. Major generals included Sir Henry Clinton, Earl Cornwallis, and Knyphausen against the American George Washington and Charles Lee. The Battle is generally considered a draw for both sides due to the similar casualties and general lack of progress it resulted in for either side. However, the performance of Charles Lee is perhaps the most interesting of the battle due to his incompetence and poor leadership.
  • Battle of Savannah

    Battle of Savannah
    This battle involved American General Robert Howe and British Lieutenant Colonel Archibald Campbell. It is often known as the Capture of Savannah, which illustrates its importance as the capture of a major town by the British. It was also the beginning of their push into the South.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    The importance of this battle is certainly obvious, as it marked the surrender of the British and the end of the American Revolution. The French and American forces, led by George Washington and Comte de Rochambeau, laid siege to the British forces at Yorktown which resulted in the surrender of British General Lord Corwallis.
