American Revolution

  • The Seven Years War

    Though it was also Known as the French and Indian war, this war spread across 5 continents. The War happened because of a very specific controversy; whether the upper Ohio River was part of Britain's empire, therefor open to settle and trade by Virginia or Pennsylvania, or part of the French empire. This war was important to the revolutionary war because it put Britain in war dept, which lead to the Stamp act, which was also a big event leading to the Revolution. (date is date the war started.)
  • Sugar Act

    The Sugar act was yet another act passed by British parliament to get their finances back from a war. This act was also called the American Revenue Act. The Sugar act was important to the revolution in the same way some of the other events on this timeline are; it further angered the colonists and made them want to fight for independence.
  • The Stamp Act

    The stamp act happened because Britain had low finances from the seven years war, and an easy way to get some money to replenish finances, was to tax the american colonists. The colonists had to pay taxes in the form of stamps on papers, documents, and even playing cards. This event was a major part of history that lead to the American Revolution because it caused a large uproar in the colonies and that's why it is important to the Revolution.
  • The Townshend Acts

    The Townshend acts were a bunch of measures the British passed saying that there is a tax on all imported goods. The goods that mostly got imported from Britain was paint, lead, glass, paper, and tea. Eventually, the acts were repealed because of a circular letter, and mostly, boycotts on imported items. This is important to the American Revolution because the Townshend acts showed resistance from the colonies, and that build up led to some more severe events leading to the revolutionary war.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre happened in Boston, outside of the Old State House. It started as an argument between some British soldiers and a few colonists, It escalated when more colonists gathered and started to throw things, something hit a soldier, he fell down, and fired into the crowd, which lead to more gunshots, which lead to 5 deaths. This event was important to the American Revolution because it helped unite the colonies against Britain, and made the colonists want independence even more.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea party happened at Griffins Wharf, when over 100 colonists dressed up and went aboard the tea ship to throw all the tea overboard. They threw 342 chests of tea into the water. They did this because they were angry about the taxes and wanted this British tea company to suffer. This was an important event leading up to the American Revolution because it was one of the things the colonists did to get back at Britain because they were angry and wanted Independence.
  • Boston Port Act: Intolerable Act

    The Boston Port Act was one of the 5 intolerable acts passed by British parliament to get back at the colonists. This act caused the closing of the Boston Port on June 1st, 1774. The port was closed Because the British thought that by closing the port, they could get the colonists to pay for all the dumped tea at the Boston Tea Party. This is important to the war because it connects to the Boston Tea party and also the First Continental Congress, that was called because of the intolerable acts.
  • First Continental Congress

    The first continental congress took place at Carpenters Hall, Philadelphia. They came together to protest the intolerable acts the British imposed on the Colonies. The intolerable acts were the Boston Port Act, Administration of Justice Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Quartering Act, and Quebec Act. The First continental congress was important to the revolution because they were trying to repair the relationship between Britain and the colonies, while making sure the colonies had rights.
  • Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death Speech

    The Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death speech was a speech made by Patrick Henry, who was one of the founding fathers. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and others attended the speech. The speech was about getting the colonies to revolt against the British, because they were going to use force against the colonies, and that its a good time to go against Britain. This speech was made weeks before the American Revolution stared. That is why this is important to the Revolution.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    This Battle was probably the most important to the American Revolution, because its the Battle that started the war. The battle started in Lexington, which ended up being a pretty small fight, the Americans fled and the British started making their way to Concord. Then, the American colonists started on their way back to Boston, finding more soldiers and went on attacking the British while they were going back to Boston.
  • The Second Continental Congress

    The second continental congress came together in Philadelphia. They came together again because that's when they said they would reconvene, and also because when the second continental congress happened, the revolutionary war had already started. That is also why the Second Continental congress was important to the revolution.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    It's called the Battle of Bunker hill, but most of the battle took place on Breed's hill. The British won this battle and there were 200+ killed, and 800+ wounded. In result to the British winning, they took over the peninsula. The battle was important to the Revolution because it was early into it, and the battle made the British realize that this is going to be a long and costly fight, and for the Americans, who were inexperienced, it was a good learning experience, and it built their morale.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence was approved by congress on July 4, 1776, but it did not take just one day to do everything with the declaration, it was actually signed on August 2, 1776. It took years to actually gain independence. The Declaration is important to the American revolution because the declaration was about becoming independent and why they should be independent, and the Revolution was a war about American independence with the British.
  • French Alliance

    The French alliance was an alliance between colonial America and the French empire. This alliance was a sort of pact with France and america where France provided stuff for America. The alliance was important to the American Revolution because it was made while the Revolution was happening.
  • Articles of Confederation

    The Articles of Confederation was the First US constitution of sorts. Later, it was replaced with the current Constitution because it had lots of flaws. The articles were ratified the date I put here, but it did not take just one day. The authors and signatories were the Continental Congress. The document was a paper establishing the national government functions of the USA after they gained independence after the revolution. That is why it is important to the revolution.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Yorktown Battle was one of the most important battles of the American Revolution. The Yorktown battle was actually the battle that ended the Revolutionary war, not formally, but it ended the war. The American colonists bombarded Yorktown for weeks before the Yorktown residents finally surrendered. The Battle ended on October 17. 1781, when Cornwallis surrendered.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris was a document stating that the US was independent and that the British crown realized that and relinquished their land in North America to the colonists, making it so that the colonists can start expanding outward. The Treaty of Paris was The thing that formally ended the American Revolution.
  • US Constitution Signed

    The US constitution was first signed by James Madison, other delegates from each state signed it too though. The constitution was signed in the Pennsylvania State house in Philadelphia, which is no the independence house. The US constitution is important to the Revolutionary war because before the war, each state had its own constitution and government, but after the war, they came together and realized that wasn't a great way to do things, so they made the US constitution.
