  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts
    The Navigation Acts started that American colonies could only export goods to England. This caused tensions to rise between the British and Americans.
  • French and Indian War ends

    French and Indian War ends
    The Treaty of Paris ended this war. It left France with virtually no land in America.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Britain needed more money to fund their wars so they imposed stamp duty on newspapers and legal/commercial documents. This made tensions rise between the British and colonists.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston massacre was caused by patriots protesting the British troops occupying Britain and throwing things such as snowballs at the troops. 5 colonists died after the British opened fire. This again caused tensions to rise between colonists and British.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea act was used to reduce the amount of Tea held by the British East India Company. They sold access tea to the colonists at a reduced price.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was caused by the fact that Americans thought they were being unfairly taxed on goods. The colonist dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. This overall caused tensions to rise between the colonists and British.
  • Coercive/ Intolerable Acts

    Coercive/ Intolerable Acts
    These acts were made as an effect of the destruction of British property by the colonists in the Boston Tea Party. These acts were meant to punish Boston and use it as an example for the rest of the colonists.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    This was formed to discuss the coercive/intolerable acts. They discussed how to go about resisting the British.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    Lexington and Concord was caused by British troops coming to Concord to seize weapons from the colonists. This battle was won by the colonists and served as a huge boast for colonist moral.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    This meeting was called shortly after the start of the revolutionary war. They did normal government things there such as appointing ambassadors, making currencies, and appointing generals.
  • Declaration of Independence Adopted

    Declaration of Independence Adopted
    The Declaration of Independence was written as a result of the colonists wanting to be independent from the British. It contains the goals of the nation, complaints about the Brutish king, and explained why they felt they needed to be free. This official started the American Revolution.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    This battle was caused by the Americans wanting the French to be allies with them. After winning this battle the French did aline with them.
  • Winter at Valley Forge

    Winter at Valley Forge
    The Americans stayed at Valley Forge to watch the British. They ended up staying all winter and soon ran out of resources. It was very hard on the soldiers and many died.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    The French army helped trap Cornwallis in Yorktown. Cornwallis ended up surrendering and subsequently ended the Revolutionary war.
  • U.S. Constitution Written

    U.S. Constitution Written
    After gaining independence from Britain the Americans wrote the Constitution to lay down how the government would function and what rights every citizen was guaranteed.
  • U.S Constitution Adopted

    U.S Constitution Adopted
    After coming out of the Revolutionary war victorious the Americans adopted the Constitution which laid out how they wanted the government to function and how they wanted daily life in America to be.
