    End of French and Indian War

    The Proclamation of 1763
    This prohibited colonists from living west of the Apparition Mountains, to keep the Natives safe. It also helped the Britsh control the westward expansion and the fur trade

    The Sugar Act
    Taxes on sugar and molasses were lowered, but the colonists were still angry because they were still being taxed and didn't have a say in it.

    The Stamp Act taxed the colonists on any printed paper or goods. The colonists believed that the Britsh shouldn't tax them, so this angered them.

    This taxed goods like glass, tea, and paper before they were imported. The women boycotted by telling people to buy hand made fabrics.

    The colonists were antagonizing the solders and a nervous soldier fired into the crowd. The others thought the leader said fire so they did. This killed three and wounded two.

    The East India Company got full control of the tea market for the colonies. The Company taxed the colonists, which they did not like. They then boycotted the tea.

    They kept sending tea to harbors which the colonists did not want. The British demanded the tea be sold so the colonies revolted. The dress as Natives and dumped all the tea into the ocean.

    To punish the colonists, King George III made the Coercive Act. Allowing soldiers to take and stay in the colonists' home. They also passed the Quebec Act, allowing Canada to take some of the colonists' land.

    55 delegates from 12 colonies (not including Georgia) formed the Continental Congress. They voted to repeal 13 of the acts parliament set, boycott British Trade, and to make Coercive Act illegal.

    The battle was during the second year of the American Revolution. Two critical battles were fought eighteen days apart. It was a victory for the Americans and gave France the confidence to become an American ally.

    Since it was a weak central government, each state governed themselves for the time being. But each state had to create a constitution for themselves.

    William Howe and his troops captured Philadelphia, leaving Americans to freeze at Vally Forge.

  • Congress Prohibits Enslaved People imported to the US.

    Thomas Jefferson proposed a ban on slaves in Northwest Virginia. Since most of the Northwest workforce were slaves, most people did not approve.
  • Winter in Valley Forge

    Washington moved his troops to Valley Forge to spend the winter. The winter there was harsh with very little supplies. It was so bad that the troop had to resort to stealing from the local farmers for sustenance. Many soldiers died from illness or starvation. Though, the ones who survived trained to become great soldiers.
  • Jones Paul Jones & Serapis

    James Paul Jones captioned a small ship named Bonhomme Richard. Jones faced British ships named Serapis and Countless of Scarborough. Despite the fact that the Bonhomme Richard was smaller it still fought in battle and Jones won. The Britsh ship then surrendered.
  • Spain Declares War on Great Britain

    Spain was both allies with France and America wanted to help in the battle. Spain supplied food and ammunition to the french and American troops fighting.
  • British forces capture Charles Town

    The Seige of Charles Town, then Charleston after the war, was a major win for the British. After their withdrawal from Philadelphia, they then turned their focus to the southern colonies.
  • Plans for first Federal Tax

    Since the Civil war, Congress was low on the country's finances. They offered the idea for a 5% tax on all imported goods. But the law could not be passed because all states voted but Rhode Island was against the tax.
  • British surrender at Yorktown

    The French cut off supplies from the British and had to surrender due to lack of supplies.
  • Treaty of Paris

    A peace treaty between America and the British. The treaty ended the Revonlusary war and the British finally acknowledged America's independence.
  • Spain Closed Lower Mississippi River to American Western Settlers

    The Treaty of Paris announced that Americans would be able to explore the Mississipi River. But the Spanish closed the river and the Americans were so outraged they threatened war.
  • The Ordinace of 1785

    This law sold land North of the Ohio River to new settlers and current settlers. The land was divided into townships then divided into smaller sections to sell. And these areas did not allow slaves.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    An uprising in Western Massachusetts because people did not agree with the new tax. The members of the rebellion were mostly poor people in Massachusetts. The rebellion led to George Washington becoming President.
  • The Northwest Ordinance

    Created land north of the Ohio River and east of the Mississippi River with bills such as no slavery, freedom of religion, and trial by jury.
  • Convention In Philadelphia

    A meeting among the state delegates in Philadelphia. They planned on revising the Articles of Confederation and started the writing of the Constitution.
  • Signing the Constitution.

    The Constitution was signed in the Indepeance Hallin Philadephia. Rhode Island did not sign but thirty-nine other delegates signed the Constitution.
  • Delaware First State to Approve the Constitution.

    Delaware was the first state to approve of the Constitution. They believed that a stronger national government would be better for the new country.
  • New Hampshire Ratifies Constitutions

    New Hampshire ratifies the Constitution to establish a civil government.
  • Land Act of 1800

    Made land easier for settlers to buy. Settlers could pay a little and pay the rest of during a four year period.
