It appeared the British would win but they ended up having to surrender to America. The outcome is that it was an American victory. It ended up gaining French support for the colonies. -
Battle of Charleston March 29, 1780-May 12, 1780
This was one of the major battles of the war. It was a British victory but was also their second attempt. Their first attempt was unsuccessful due to the palmetto trees blocking the British cannons from shooting at the fort. At the time that Clinton compelled Lincoln to surrender, 5,000 American troops were lost. -

This was the largest battle and most contested. It lead to the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown. -
