    After six relitively peaceful years the french and the british were having conflicts again, and it erupted into a war.
    -Several military alliances between the Native Americans and the french were developed
    -A major contention between the french and the british was the rich Ohio river valley west of Pennsilvania and Virgina.
    -Because the french went over the agreed borders to build fort Duquesne, the Virginia Governer sent militia to evict the french, resulting as the very beginning of the war

    To Avoid anymore fighting with the Native Americans , the British government prohibited the colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains, The British created the Proclomation of 1763, proclaming a line along the mountain range, which the colonists were not aloud to cross under any circumstances. However, greed got the best of the colonists and they ignored the proclomation all together and continued on into the Native American territories.
  • The Sugar Act

    In 1764 George Grenville prompted parilament to enact a law known as the sugar act because he concluded that the colonists were smuggling in goods without paying their duties.The sugar act halved the foriegn-made molasses in hopes the colonists would pay lower taxes. As well as putting duties on certain imports that had not been taxed before. Lastly, if a colonist was caught violating the act they were tried in a admirality court instead of a sympathetic colonial court.
  • The Stamp Act

    in the spring of 1765 Parlialiment passed the Stamp Act. The act imposed taxes on all printed documents such as wills, newspapers,and playing cards. The stamp would be placed on these documents as proof that the tax on the document had been payed. At first it was lieved on the goods and services the colonists had requested.

    In the summer of 1765, colonists banded together to defy the law. Boston shopkeepers, Artisians, and Laborers got together and created a secret organization called the Sons of Liberty to protest against the law and put an end to the taxing on all printed documents.

    In 1767 Parliament passed the townshend act, named after Charles Townshend. The Act taxed all goods imported into the colonies from Britain, such as lead, glass,paint,and paper. The acts also imposed a tax on tea, the most popular drink in the colonies.

    In the early spring of 1770, a mob had gathered in front of the Boston Customs House and taunted british soldiers that were standing guard. Five colonists were killed that day and one of the first to die out of the five was Crispus Attucks. Some were mortally wounded by the british soldiers. Colonial leaders quickly named that fateful day the Boston Massacre
  • The Tea Act

    In 1773, Lord North devised the Tea act in order to save the nearly bankrupt British East India Company. The act Granted the right to sell tea to the colonies free of taxes that the colonial tea sellers had to pay. This would cut the colonial merchants out of the picture completely allowing the British East India Company to sell directly to the colonie consumers for less.The lord hoped that the colonists would just pay for the cheaper tea but instead they protested dramatically.

    During a Winter's evening of 1773, a large group of boston rebels dressed as Native Americans and proceeded to take action against three British Tea ships anchored in the harbor. The "Indians" dumped nearly 18,000 pounds of East India's Company's tea into the cold waters of the Boston Harbor. This action was ;ater called the Boston Tea Party.

    Early Autumn of 1774 56 delagates met in Philadelphia and drew up a declaration of colonial rights. These rights defended the colonies rights to run their own affairs and stated that if the british used force upon the colonies then the colonists were aloud to fight back.

    In 1774 an furious Kind George III pressed parliament to act upon the action of the rebels the yea before. Parliament responded by passing a series of measures that colonists called the Intolerable Acts. One law shut down Boston Harbor, The quartering act also took place authorizing british commanders to house soliders in vacant private homes and other buildings. In addition, General Thomas Gage was appointed the governer of Massaschusetts.He later placed Boston under Martial law.
