The Sugar Act
A 3¢ tax on refined sugar and incrased taxes on coffee, indigo, and some types of wine. The purpose was that if the taxes were lowered on sugar if would decrease smuggling. -
The Stamp Act
This was the first dreict tax put on teh colonies. It put taxes on printed materials like newspapers, magazines, insurance policies, and legal documents. These were imposed to support the British troops in the colonies. -
Boston Massacre
A group of British soldiers open fired on agruop of colonists in Boston, Massachusetts. They killed 5 and injrued 5. The officers and their commanding officer were later arrested, unt pamphlets depicting the scene were givin out increasing the animosity toward teh British. -
Boston Tea Party
As a formo fprotest 70 men dressed as Indians borded a ship carrying tea from the East India Company and threw it in the Boston Harbor. -
The Intolerable Acts
A series of acts passed on the coloinsts as punishment for the Boston Tea Party. It consisted of 4 acts: Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Administration of Justice Act, and the Quebec Act. -
The First Continental Congress
Delegates fromt 12 colonies met to discuss a solution to the issue of the Inotlerable Acts . They came to the decision to boycott British goods -
Battle of Lexingtion and Concord
The British governer of Massachusetts sent British troops to seize the Colonists military stores in Concord. The Patriots fonud and local Militiamen went to Lexington to stop them, they were outnumbered and the Birthish troops defaetd them adn marche don to Concord. There they were met with another at the North Bridge and teh British were defeated. -
Gerge Washington named Chief
Congress chose George Washington to lead because he had the most military experience of any man. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
This battle, mainy fought on Breed's Hill, was a fight won by the British against inexperienced militiamen. Event hough the colonists lost they put a huge dent in British forces adn it gave the colonist a huge confidence boost. -
Second Continental Congress
A convention of delgates from 13 colonies to discuss how to procede after the Battle of Lexington and Concord, they decided for one last attempt at peace with Britian with the Olive Branch Petition. -
Adoption fo the Declaration of Independence
The Second Continental Congress adopted teh Declaration of Independence that formally claimed the 13 colonies as independent. -
Battles of Saragota
Fought on Sept 17 and Oct 22, 1777 it was a turning point in the American Revolution beacuse it convinced France to support teh Colonist against Britian. -
Seige of Charleson
The British to Charleston, SC, took out a large Patriot army, and initatiated one on the worst defaets in the entire war. -
Yorktown
After a campaign of land and sea between the joined American and Franco armies teh British were trapped in teh Yorktown peninsula. After General Cornwallis released the were going to be defeated, so he attempted to escape and failed. So he agreed to the terms of surrender. The fighting still continued afterwards but it was finally over. -
Treaty of Paris
This officially ended the war of indpendence and British Empire excepted defeat and the fact that the colonies were independennt. The Treaty also set the boundaries of the US.
