    Berlin Airlift

    Soviets want to keep Germany divided, hold West Berlin hostage. Soviet union cuts off all traffic and water to West Berlin, in hopes that the Allies gve up the idea of reuifying Germany. For 11 months American and British officials flew in supplies, Soviets lift blockade.
  • Creation of Israel

    UN general general assembly voted for a partition into a Palestinain and Jewish state. Jerusalem was to be an interntional city owned by niether side. Terms of the partition gave Jews 55% of the area even though they only made up 34% of the population.

    U.S, Canada and 12 other nations form a defensive alliance due to fears of Soviet aggression.

    Alliance formed by Eastern European nations and the soviet union in response to West Germany joining NATO.
  • Assassination of Israeli prime minister

    Assassination of Israeli prime minister
    He agreed to grant the Palestinains self-rule in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Rabin was killed by a right- wing Jewish extremist who opposed concessions to the Palestinains.

  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    A U.S spy plane discovered that the Soviets have built missile sites in Cuba This was seen as a threat tp the U.S because Cuba is 90 miles from the coast of Floirida.The U.S demands their removal, and blockades Cuba to prevent Soviets from installing more missiles. Threatof nuclear war, Soviets agree to more missiles if U.S doesn't invade Cuba.
