Scalia was a huge opposer of capital punishment. He always voted against cases that involved this saying its unconsitutional. In this case he voted against it. The case involved a 15 year old commiting murder and who was sentenced too death, and he was under 16 and isn't able to be sent to deaht. -

A Pennsylvania law that required spousal awareness prior to obtaining an abortion was invalid under the Fourteenth Amendment because it created an undue burden on married women seeking an abortion. This women said that she had to tell her husband she was having one and she thought that wasn't constitutional. Scalia argued that there is no constitutional right to abortion, and that if the people desire legalized abortion, a law should be passed to accomplish it. -

University of Michigan Law School admissions program that gave special consideration for being a certain racial minority. Scalia dissented in this case saying that racial affirmative action should still be used if we want to have mixed raced schools. -
District of Columbia v. Heller
A court case that discussed the right to carry a firearm for personal protection and to use it for only certain reasons. Scalia voted with the majority. This case said that handguns are firearms. -

This case was the landmark case that said gay marriage is consitutional. Scalia stated that the Court's decision effectively robs the people of the liberty to govern themselves -
Death
Scalia died at home peacefully in his sleep. His doctors said that he suffered from heart problems.
