  • American Peace Society formed

    William Ladd forms the American Peace Society in 1828 after agitation for peace gained momentum in the pre-Civil War years. The ideas included in this organization had real substance in the international organizations for collective security of later years. The American peace crusade linked with a European counterpart made promising progress by the mid 1800s until certain European wars.
  • Finney Led Series of Revivals in 1834

    In 1834 the charismatic Charles Grandison Finney led a series of enormously successful revivals in cities and places in the Midwest along the Erie Canal. He was said to have converted a half million people, and was a mesmerizing speaker. Reviving religous views amongst people led to a more grounded and peaceful public.
  • William Ladd becomes congretional clergyman 1837

    In 1837 William Ladd became a congregational clergyman to provide an additional forum for his message. This came after anit-slavery efforts in the South in Florida, after approaching legislators to get approval of peace resolutions, and so on.
  • Melville Publishes his book Moby Dick in 1851

    Herman Melville publishe his book Moby Dick in 1851, which expressed ideas about the good and evil in society, but overal advocated peacfule conduct and treatment of things. His works represent the ideas of many other books, novels, essays, and works in general as well.
  • Webster Published Dictionary in 1828

    Noah Webster, the "Schoolmaster of the Republic," published his famous dictionary in 1828 after distributing his reading lessons , which promoted patriotism and peace, and used by millions of children. He helped in stadardizing the American language, and his efforts game many people eductaional opportunities that led to their being more peaceful treatement/relations and more peace-minded people.
