Denying true self
I started playing soccer and my dad was the soccer coach. I was not that good at soccer and my dad was always harder on me and it was very frustrating. I knew that I was bad at soccer but I continued to play to try and do well like the other kids. Me trying to do better at soccer is like when Laurence kept trying to play sports to keep up with his dad. -
My dad taught me how to ride a bike

Revealing I am Unique
I started dong Hip Hop in at a dance studio in Butner. I did it because my sisters were getting older and starting to leave home going to school, so I wanted to find things that I enjoyed to do that would keep me busy so I would not be sitting home alone bored. This can be connected to Laurence because he tried sports to see if it was something he was good at. -

Hardship/Tragedy
My sister decided to apply to this High School in Durham called North Carolina School of Science and Math, and she got accepted. It was hard for me because that was a school that you stayed at and also my other sister was getting prepared to go to college and I was going to be alone and I would really miss my sisters. This connects to Laurence because he was feeling lonely when his Father only really paid attention to his brother Eddy. -

Searching for True Self
We moved my other sister into A&T because she was starting college. At this time I was searching for my true self because I wanted to start finding things that I liked since I was going to be alone with my parents I had to do things I enjoyed to keep me busy and not thinking about missing my sisters. This is like when Laurence went with his father to kill the rats because he wanted to step up and see what he enjoyed.
