    Israel declared independence. Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, & Iraq attacked Israel. May 15, 1948- March 1949 Outcome: Israel gained land. Egypt gained he Gaza Strip and Jordan gained the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Jews became refugees.

    Six Day War or The 1967 War
    Egypt blockaded Israel. Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Iraq moved troops to Israel's borders and made threatening statements. Israel launched a preemptive strike. June 5, 1967 – June 10, 1967 Outcome: Israel captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Golan Heights from Syria, and the Gaza Strip and all of Sinai Peninsula from Egypt. More Palestinians and Jews became refugees. Terrorism became more common.

    Egypt and Syria attack Israel on Yom Kippur. The Israelis managed to push back the attack. Outcome: U.S convinced Israel to withdraw from the territories. The war reinforced the stragetic importance of the buffer zones.

    Egypt recongnizes Israel. They enter a peace treaty. Anwar Sadat realized war with Israel was harming economy and the well-being of his people. Outcome: Israel returned to Egypt all of the Sinai and removed all Jewish families from the homes that were established in Egypt.

    PLO units in Lebanon attacked Israel more. Israel lauches attack on Lebanon. Outcome: Israel succeeded in moving the PLO out of Lebanon and into Tunisia.
