  • 1948 War

    1948 War
    Israel declared its own independence. Shortly after Israel had declared its own independence, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq attacked the newly independent nation. This ultimately lead to Israel gaining land. Egypt had gained the Gaza strip, while Jordan had gained the West Bank and East Jerusalem.   • Settlement Construction Begins

    Settlement Construction Begins
    The building of settlements began as security outposts and to prevent attacks on major population centers. This lead Israel and Palestine to negotiate a part of a comprhensive peace agreement.   • Attrition Battles

    Attrition Battles
    Israel gained land and tried to maintain a unified city filled with peace. However, Arab nations, Egypt and PLO attacked parts of Israel. After an attempt to overthrow Jordan's King, Hussein, fighting continued until June of 1971. Jordan Evicted the PLO from the country. The war eventually ended in August of 1970.     Six Day War or The 1967 War
    Egypt blockaded Israel by having Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Iraq move troops to Israel's borders. They made threatening statements, which made Israel launch a srike. Israel was able to capture the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan. They also captured the Golan Heights from Syria and the Gaza Strip and all of the Sinai Peninisula from Egypt. During all of this time, more Palestinians and Jews became refugees. Terrorism became more popular. The war ended on June 10, 1967.

  • The October War or Yom Kippur War

    The October War or Yom Kippur War
    Egypt and Syria attacked Israel on Yom Kippur. Israel held them back and the U.S. convinved them to withdraw territories.     Egypt and Israel Sign a Peace Agreement
    Egypt was the first to recognize Israel as a country. Egypt became the first Arab country to enter peace with Israel. Throughout the peace process, Israel returned all Sinai to Egypt and removed all Jewish families that built there homes on Egypt's borders.   • The 1982 Lebanon War

    The 1982 Lebanon War
    Israel attacked PLO people stationed in Lebanon because Lebanon established communities in northern Israel. This became the first Lebanon War. In the end, military presence in southern Lebanon established to prevent terroist attacks. Later, renewed terroist attacks led to the second Lebanon War in 2006. The war ended in September of 1982.   • The First Intifada

    The First Intifada
    Palestinians engaged in an uprising against Israeli control of territories. During the fighting, Palestinians used weapons from PLO. Many Palestinians were killed, which lead to the conclusion that Israel was being to harsh in maintaining peace. The First Intifada eventually lead to the Oslo Accords.     The Oslo Accords
    Israel and Palestinians signed a Declaration of Principles, whic lead to the creation of the Palestinian Authority. Each of the two exchanged letters of Mutual Recognition ti maintain peace.     The Camp David Summit
    Clinton brought Israeli Prime minister and Palestinian president to Camp David to negotiate a final status agreement. In the end, the Palestinian president, Araft, refused it and did not make any counter offers. Peace was not achieved betweent he two nations and more conflict evolved from the meeting.     The Second Intifada
    Isreali general visited the Jewish Temple Mount and the Palestinians rioted beasue of the visit. There were many lives lost on both sides and many Palestinian civilians got involved.     Arab Peace Initiative is Proposed
    The Saudi Arabian prince offered a peace proposal to the Arab league nations. The proposal was welcomed by Israel, though they disagreed with some of the demands, such as the demand that they had to withdraw back to their 1967 borders.     Isreal Begins Constructing the West Bank Barrier
    Isreal built a security barrier as means of terrorist protection for Israelis. This barrier was also similar to the Gaza Strip barrier, that was previously built. This barrier was ultimately criticized for dividing Palestinians from their land. However, the barrier reduced the number of suicide bombings on both sides of the wall, although there still is some great dispute about whether it should be there or not.     The Roadmap for Peace is Proposed
    The United States, Russia, United Nations and the European Union proposed a peace plan for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Their goal; establish an independent Palestine and sdcure Israel. However, the progress was halted on this project when Israel was attacke dby a terrorist group. The Roadmap was eventuially reaaffirmed at the Annapolis Conference, "Road Map for Peace." Ynet.     Israel Disengages from the Gaza Strip
    In order for Israel and Plestine to be separated, Israeal was removed from Gaza. The evictions were completed by Spetember 12, 2005. Israelis living in the Gaza Strip argued that it was not part of the negotiations with the Palestinians.     The Palestinians elected Hamas to authority. Once elsected, Hamas called for the destrction of Israel and the killing of Jews. This caused the Western nations to impose sanctions, with the ruling that the sanctions would be lifted when Hamas decided to acceot Palestinian- Israeli agreements.   • The 2006 Lebanon War

    The 2006 Lebanon War
    Terrorist group Hezbollah attacked the Isareli army. They launched rockets into Israel and Israel then launched air strikes on Hezbollah. They then used a human-shield strategy for defense. This resulted in a loss of civilians and property damage to Israelis. They also damaged Lebanon's transportation infrastructure.     The Battle of Gaza
    Hamas and the PLO Fatah were engaged in a conflict that caused Hamas to attack Fatah in Gaza. As a result, Palestinian authority dissolved the Hamas government, Afterward, Hamas gained control of the Gaza Strip, while Palestine controlled the West Bank.     The Israeli army attacked Hamas in Gaza. They did this with the intention of it stopping rocket attacks, and disrupt smuggling. This killed a significant amount of militants and civilians and damaged the economy and buildings in Gaza. The war ended on January 18, 2009.     Gaza Flotilla Incident
    Hamas gained Palestinian authority, causing Israel and Egypt to form a blockade of Gaza, which was ruled legal. Six ships were sent into Gaza that were taken over by Israel. Thus, killing 9 Turkish activists, and when Turkey requested an apology from Israel, the Israelis said that they believed thier actions were justified.     Arab league citizens protested about their autocratic government system and fought for better governing. Their protests spread all across the Arab world quickly.
