This book, prequel to The Enemy, starts off when the plague first struck. It opens with a group of middle-schoolers who were locked in their all-boys school at the time of apocolypse. They are a group of 20 and are constantly fighting off diseased teachers and are running out of food. The leaders, Ed and Jack, eventually gather them all, and they leave. They head over to a hardware store to pick up weapons and tools, but are ambushed by bloodthirsty, diseased teenagers. They wipe out more than half of the group, and look like they are about to kill them all before a random bus appears and runs over all the teens. They get on the bus and are surprised by all the other kids on their of all ages. They take a seat and Greg, who mysteriously doesn't have the disease, tells them they're heading to the city, and they all decide to join and form a new life there. Greg begins to become a little crazy, and it is evident he is coming down with some sort of sickness. But he manages to put off the disease (at this point is the Adult Virus) for a while, showing no symptoms or signs of insanity. Greg loses it finally. One night, he decides to comfort Liam, his son, by sleeping by his side, as Liam is fearful from his dad's symptoms. During the night, Greg chokes him to death so that he won't have to see him go wild. When the group wakes up the next day, Greg has gone bizzark with a shotgun. The kids are welcomed into a military museum, and are given weapons and water. They must go get their own food. So they set out in hopes for finding food in supermarkets and such. But after adventuring for a while, there is no food to be found, only sickos. They are chased into an alley where they find a food truck loaded with food. It's their lucky day. Pages Read-60.
