The Soviets invaded Finland and experienced many losses because of the Finns' strength in the winter snow. Ultimately, the Societs win and Finland surrenders. -

It was known as the "sittin war" or "phony war" becaue both enemies were sitting and waiting for the enemy to attack. Hitler got tired and invaded Norway and Denmark to set up bases to invade Great Britain -
Invasion of Denmark and Norway
Hitler orders a surprise invasion of Denmark and Norway. Within four hours of he attack, Denmark falls. Two months later, so does Norway. -
Dunkirk
After the Germans got to the French, they joined with Belgium. Germany led the Allies to the city of Lille. The Allies realized that they were outnumbered so they retreated into the borderline beaches in Dunkirk in Belgium. -
Axis Attacks North Africa
Mussolini orders Italian troops into British-controlled Egypt in order to get the Suez Canal to reach the oil fields of the Middle East. -
The Fall of France
After Germany invaded France, they took many parts of the country including Paris. Shortly after, France surrendered to Germany. -
The Battle of Britain
After France fell, Great Britain was going against the Nazis alone. His idea was to destroy RAF first because new primse minister Winston Churchill said he didnt want to get involved in war. -
Battle in the Balkans
Hitler had a plan to invade more countries. He wanted to attack the southerneaster countries in Europe to build bases to attack the Soviet Union. He wanted Yugoslovia and Greece neglected his proposition so Hitler invaded both of them. He had the Balkans under control now and went further with his plan to invade them. -
German Invasion of the Soviet Union
Hitler orders troops into the Soviet Union. This invasion came as a surprise to the Soviet Union's large (but not prepared) military force. Germany utilized Russia's old "scorched-earth" tactic. In hopes of getting them to surrender, Germany bombed warehouses containing the USSR's food supply which led to the starvation and death of many inhabitants there. -
The Atlantic Charter
President Roosevelt and Winston Churchill secretly met to create this declaration. This was used as the foundation of the Allied peace plan at the end of WWII. -
Day of Infamy
Japanese sneak attack at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. More than 2000 Americans died. President Roosevelt declared it "a date which will live in infamy". -
US Declares war on Japan
Japan thought that the US was getting too involved and they wanted a paciific empire. The US attacked their capital Tokyo.
