    Germany's invasion of Poland
    On August 31, 1939, Hitler ordered for the invasion on Poland on the next day to start at 4:45 am. At 4:45 am on September 1, 1939, 1.5 million German troops invaded Poland along Poland's border of 1,750 miles. At the same time the German Luftwaffe ( an aircraft that Nazi used) bombed Polish airfields as well as attacked Polish navel forces in the Battle Sea using u-boats. Adolf Hitler thought it was a defenseless action but France and Britain thought differently.

  • Fall of Paris

    Fall of Paris
    On this day Paris was given a curefew from Germans,After 8 p.m. Paris and it's population had to be in total shut down. France's president couldn't take anymore of this and wanted to sew Germany for peace, but Britain told him not to and instead wait for America. America got a telegram informing them of this and asking for help. America didn't agree to making any kind of declaration but was willing to send material aid.     Operation Barbarossa
    Hitler sent out massive amounts of troops on June 22, 1941, to invade the Soviet Union. This attack had three million German soldiers, 150 divisions, and three thousand tanks and covered an area of about 2,000 miles. To their surprise, the Germans underestimated their opponents. Although the Germans had the best equipment in the that century they still couldn't defeat their opponents. Due to the Nazi Germany's failure, they were forced to fight a two-front war.

  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Around 8 a.m. on December 7, 1941, Japanese fighter planes flew over Honolulu, Hawaii, dropping bombs. The bombing happened for about 2 hours. In that time, Japanese were able to destroy 20 American naval vessels, 300 planes, and 8 battleships. Due to this bombing more than 2,000 American solderers and sailors died while more then 100 were wounded. America and Japan were already leaning towards war before so president Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan the very next day.

    Wannsee Conference
    The Wansee Conference was a conference held at a villa in Berlin. The purpose of this conference what to determine what was going to be done with European Jews. In this conference Hitler's authorization to mass murder European Jews was discussed. It was estimated that approximately 11 million European Jews would be part of the "Final Solution". Unfortunately, none of the official present at that conference were against Hitler's proposal.

    Bataan Death March
    The Bataan Death March started on April 9, 1942, after the U.S. and Filipinos surrendered to Japan. Approximately 75,000 Filipino's and American troops had to go on an intense 65 mile walk to prison camps.The men were separated in to groups, but it is believed that many groups died during the walk do to the lack of food and water. The men were also mistreated by the guards. The remaining men were put in prison camps were they were also mistreated.

    Battle of Midway
    The Battle of Midway was a Japanese attack against the U.S. The Japanese wished to sink aircraft carries that weren't destroyed in the Pearl Harbor attack. The plan for the attack was to invade a place near the previous attack where the Japanese thought they would terminate the U.S. The U.S. was able to crack the Japanese code of the plan attack and carefully placed the carriers in position to surprise the Japanese. This was considered the most decisive battle.

    Operation Gomorrah
    Before this Germany had already bombed Britain and Britain wanted to get back at them for it. On the evening of July 24, 1943, Britian dropped 2,300 tons of bombs which was the same amount that was dropped in London. Britain didn't loose a lot of planes but Germany did loose lots of lives.     The British army began the allied invasion of Italy at it's peninsula and landing at the tip of Italy. The Italian government secretly agreed to surrender under the terms of the allies. In this agreement the Italians would be treated with permission just as if they had aided the Allie's. Mussolini's government fell do to the conquest of Sicily. He then went to prison and got rescued by German commandos.

    On D-Day Europe got out of Nazi's control. On June 6, 1944, American troops were on the boarder line of enemies territory. British and Canadians were at the beach's that were codenamed Gold, Juno and Sword. American troops were waiting at Utah Beach. U.S. troops were also at Omaha Beach where they fought and tried to push enemies out. Many men were killed, wounded, or went missing but on this day Europe got out of Nazi's control.

    The American invasion in Iwo Jima caused a great need for a U.S. base near the Japanese coast. Iwo Jima had around 23 thousand army and navy troops defending it. This troops fought from caves, dugouts, tunnels, and under ground installations. All these places were hard to find and destroy. Which caused the U.S. to prepare themselves with a base at this location.

    The battle of Okinawa was the last and biggest of the Pacific Ocean battles. This battle involved 287,000 U.S. troops and 13,000 Japanese troops. Although the Japanese used different tactics to gain more time than previous times, they were not very sophisticated. In this battle both the American and Japanese commanding generals died. This battle was the biggest and bloodiest because even innocent people died.

    On May 8, 1945, Europe and America celebrated the defeat of the Nazi war machine. Places in both nations put out flags and banners about the defeat of the Nazi war machine. In Prague, Germans surrendered to Soviet and became their hostiles. Russia had around 2 million prisoners before and after the surrenderer of Germany. With this the Germans were collapsing.

    Dropping of atomic bombs
    On August 6, 1945. American bombers Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb over Japanese city of Hiroshima. The bomb was 5 tons with 15,000 tons of TNT in it. The bomb was so big that it instantly killed 80,000 people. Thousands died about a week later of wounds or the radiation poisoning. 3 days later another bomb was dropped in Nagasaki killing more that 40,000 people. A couple days later Japan announced their surrenderer.

  • VJ Day

    VJ Day
    All thought Japan had already surrendered on August 14,1945, the official surrender was on September 2, 1945. Japan wasn't looking so good so they were offered to surrender and if they did they were promised a peaceful government. Japan didn't surrender right away when they got the offer. The U.S. dropped two atomic bombs on to cities of Japan. Days later the president of Japan realized that if Japan kept going they were going to end in extension. Therefore Japan surrendered.
